Special counsel Jack Smith has resigned from the Justice Department effective Friday, according to a court filing.

The filing comes amid a legal fight to stop Attorney General Merrick Garland from releasing the special counsel’s report of his investigations into then-President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and the alleged mishandling of classified documents after Trump left office.

The "report" has no legal standing .... it's nothing more than a "last jab" in an effort to discredit President Trump of which they have been doing for years.

No, it's more than that - it is an accumulation of events, evidence and analysis of the illegal hoarding of documents and the attempt at insurrection that is now part of the official record, one volume public, the other volume private while the co-defendants remain under indictment.

Too bad the full Mueller Report has never been released. Shame on Merrick for that and for not vigorously prosecuting Trump's alleged crimes.

It comes down do what actually happens in a court .... and in this case nothing happening. Look ... it's no secret these people want to prosecute Trump ... they haven't been able to ... so they take the "second" option ... and that is a "smear". Evidentially it's not a "slam dunk" or they would have done it.

Nobody said it was. But it also has no bearing on the quality of the case against the defendant. Even if you have the ability to 'slam dunk,' you can't if you're not allowed to move until the refs figure out the rules.

Yes, we know it's a report. How is it not concrete (heck, these days it's probably not even paper) and how would going to court make it "concrete"? You realize the reason volume one (the Mar-a-Lago documents) is not being released to the public at this time is because of the evidence it contains against the two remaining defendants in the case, right?

If you're trying to say that it is not "proof", then you are correct - it is evidence. If you think that people cannot draw valid conclusions from evidence, then you are incorrect. The people of the United States deserve to see and hear the actual, documented evidence - along with any counter evidence Mr. Trump and his team of lawyers and PR reps care to present.

When there is no further litigation in the case, there will be no impediment to that volume being released to the public. However, if Bondi is the AG, then it will be up to her discretion to release it or not - my prediction, based on her hearings, is that she will not.

Yeah .... what's their reason for doing so? and also, why only part of it? It's a report .... it's not an official court case. There are many things that are brought forth in actual court proceedings ... the "report" only includes their opinions and excludes anything from a defendants standpoint .... again .... it's a report of THEIR findings of which can be factual ... or not.

I would agree with this .... but that is not what is happening .... the only way this would happen is IF it actually went to court.
