Seems that tongues got popular around the time people started doing the sinner's prayer.

Seems the other cultures have been doing it awhile........:)

Paul wrote 'do not forbid tongues'.......because there was 15 or so years left before the scriptures were completed. And don't forget that tongues were a sign for "this people." Unbelieving Jews........who believed nothing without SIGNS and wonders. Tongues were a sign for THIS PEOPLE (unbelieving Jews.)

And in your video.....the husband really looked like he was enjoying his wife's 'tongues.'

That's not good enough to say doctrine changed which was not notified by scripture...we go by what is written not by what some people think is written between the lines.

The word of knowledge was a spiritual gift. Do we know anything? if so, that kind of knowledge remains.

Answer the question fairly has knowledge passed away? not the word of knowledge, knowledge.

"For now we know in part then we shall understand perfectly..."

Do you now understand perfectly? or do you still see as through a glass darkly?

Does that make an atom of sense?
Yes.

you say the gift ceased when we had the scriptures but it is the scripture that desires that we did all speak in tongues.
Paul, who was an Apostle to the gentiles, but had a very heavy heart for his fellow country men,the Jews, also said, "Do all speak in tongues?" NO. He desired all to speak in tongues because He knew it was a sign for 'THIS PEOPLE.' His fellow country men. But he knew full well that all did not have the gift of BIBLICAL tongues for "this people/unbelieving Jews."

….that's where we got it from.

And that is how we know it ceased. If we didn't have scripture everybody would running around babbling.

Paul taught that tongues when spoken in private were for personal edification.

If you had walked into a 14th century church what would you have seen or heard that you could relate to? if what we have and what we minister is not biblical it is not how it should be.

Show by scripture when the gifts were withdrawn. By what power or wisdom do YOU minister if not by the gift of the Holy Spirit?

Answer the question fairly has knowledge passed away? not the word of knowledge, knowledge.
It is a special revelation knowledge that is in view. The Scriptures were not complete, so teachers had a special knowledge to teach TRUE doctrine. It is line upon line and precept upon precept for us today that have the completed canon. They didn't have the completed canon so pastors had special knowledge......Scriptures completed.....special knowledge passed away.

"For now we know in part then we shall understand perfectly..."

Do you now understand perfectly? or do you still see as through a glass darkly?
The question is not if we understand perfectly. The question is if His word is not perfectly finished so as not to answers question's from imperfect man.

For me, speaking in tongues was done by the Apostles to spread the Gospel to all nations, where, they could hear it in their very own 'Language'.
What we hear today is babbling. I don't believe it is from God.
Do you think "mystery Babylon" in Revelation was doing too much "babbling" and why it was destroyed?
After all, the word babel comes from the word "babylon"

CJB)2 Timothy 2
16 But keep away from godless babbling, for those who engage in it will only become more ungodly,

Is the GREAT CITY in Revelation symbolizing the LAKE OF FIRE?

Revelation 18:8

by this, in one day shall be arriving the blows of Her, death and sorrow and famine.
And in fire She shall be being burned,
that strong Lord, the God, the one judging Her
18 “and cried out when they saw the smoke of Her burning, saying, ‘What is like this great City
?'

You can't go by what is not written, someone else will say "now that we have the scriptures there is no need to repent, no need to be born again" how are you going to dispute along the lines of what you think can be taken away from scriptures or what can be added?

We go by the scripture which YOU claim is perfect, the scripture says "I would that ye did all speak with tongues"

Babylon they all spoke one language..that is why they were dispersed and God confused their language.

It was Paul who said stay away from godless babbling but Paul spoke in tongues more than anybody.

The divers tongues were to stop the violence and strife.

Yes I speak in tongues and interpret.

You can't go by what is not written,
Thats what I am saying. And before the scriptures were completed........pastors had a SPECIAL knowledge.........because it was not all written yet.

someone else will say "now that we have the scriptures there is no need to repent, no need to be born again" how are you going to dispute along the lines of what you think can be taken away from scriptures
It is always interesting to see people confuse things when they have their little 'pets' to protect.

Anyhoo.......now we have the completed canon so we can't get around the truth of repentance and the need to be born-again........it is WRITTEN. It wasn't completed for them.

or what can be added?
NOTHING. PERIOD

We go by the scripture which YOU claim is perfect, the scripture says "I would that ye did all speak with tongues"
Context is key. Paul also said,"Do all speak in tongues?" which is an OBVIOUS.... NOPE.

But you have added to scripture.

The scripture exhorts us to earnestly desire the higher gifts, especially that we might prophesy...that we might all speak in tongues.

There is no scripture to say that these gifts have ceased or that they will until the perfect comes, when we shall no longer see as through a glass darkly but shall understand fully what we now know in part.

Do YOU have total knowledge? do you see the Lord face to face?

How is it do you think that once they formed the full canon of scripture....and I believe only the scriptures, how come the church plunged into more than a 1,000 years of utter darkness? Roman Catholicism reigned.

No wishes? Seriously?

Don't you wish that people would stop speaking in tongues, since you believe it is not in accordance with the Scriptures and has ceased?

Don't you wish that Satan (who knows Scripture quite well) would not have used this subject matter as a way to confuse ,misrepresent God, His Holy Word, and to bring strife and division within the church?

Don't you wish that the children of God knew His Word and more importantly applied His Word? More so than the adversary who is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour?

Don't you wish that people knew that God is not the author of confusion , but Satan is the father of lies. And that He loves to add /subtract/ twist/ turn and confuse The Word of God?

Don't you wish that people knew that speaking in tongues in this present day is not in harmony with Scripture? And that should and always is a red flag? (sound familiar?)
You are speaking in tongues and I do not understand.
I have stated that I do not "wish".
I pray , and I hope.
Please refrain from being hostile (verbally).
Kinda getting old.
