Which one do you prefer?
Soul music gets you deep down inside, that's where it comes from, deep down in the base of your belly. Telling of your inner most true feelings, talking about your current situation and the things in the world from a down to earth, nitty, gritty perspective.
Spirit music is outside of you, it's feeling the forces around you and singing in worship and praise to the great Spirit of the Living God. It's not talking about your circumstances but it's praising the Lord inspite of them, it's looking outside of yourself rather than inside yourself. Its about coming from without rather than from within, as soul music does.
Which one do you prefer? There is Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, The Temptations, James Brown, etc. They are considered soul singers, even in the gospel world you have Shirley Ceasar, The Soul Stirrers, The Caravans, Fred Hammond, The Five Blind Boys of Alabama, soul music and soul singing is rooted deep in church.
Michael W. Smith, Hillsong, Chris Tomlin, The Maranatha Singers, etc. they sing Spirit music away from the very essence of their being, away from the deep down homegrown emotions and feelings, it's not about them it's all about Christ.
