  4. There have been some changes in the Life Stages section involving the following forums: Roaring 20s, Terrific Thirties, Fabulous Forties, and Golden Eagles. They are changed to Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Golden Eagles will have a slight change.
  5. CF Staff, Angels and Ambassadors; ask that you join us in praying for the world in this difficult time, asking our Holy Father to stop the spread of the virus, and for healing of all affected.
  6. We are no longer allowing posts or threads that deny the existence of Covid-19. Members have lost loved ones to this virus and are grieving. As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.

Something strange is happening in Britain. Covid cases are plummeting instead of soaring.

From The Guardian: UK Covid: 31,117 new cases as research suggests vaccines have prevented 60,000 deaths in England – as it happened

“Herd immunity [from coronavirus] may be in sight,” a prominent thinktank has claimed. The National Institute of Economic and Social Research produces a fortnightly Covid tracker, and in its latest edition, out today, it says the latest peak in cases “has occurred somewhat sooner than we forecast”.

Under the headline “herd immunity may be in sight”, it forecasts “a uniform reduction of cases across all English regions”. It says:

It would appear that a large enough proportion of the population is currently immune, due either to vaccination or prior infection, thereby reducing the probability of transmission between persons.

But...they are still experiencing over thirty thousand new cases per day. As a comparison, NSW in Australia is experiencing about 170 which would be around 1300 per day adjusting for population. And we're in lockdown in Sydney with no interstate travel.

    Looks like vaccinations are working.

According to the UK Ministry of Health, 71.4% of UK adults have both doses of their COVID-19 vaccine, and 88.4% have had at least one dose.

Combine that with the ~4.5 million people that have recovered from the virus, and that's very close to the levels needed for proper herd immunity.

Are they working in reducing the levels of new cases from catastrophic to merely disastrous? I guess they are. But I remember when a few cases each day was a cause for concern. I think we're all suffering from covid fatigue. Even the bad times look good. Which is a cue for some music to lighten the mood...back when they used to bow after finishing their set:

I forgot how bad they were. I wonder what happened to Brian Poole..?

I think there are three possibilities:

A: The virus is running out of people who are unvaccinated and foolish enough not to protect themselves (good)
B: People are getting tested less because they are afraid of risiking their vacation, or are currently not in the country (not good)
C: The numbers reported are not correct (potentially very bad)

Our governor does not like Dr. Fauci, nor does DeSantis want to publish virus statistics. Coronavirus ravaged churches where pastors did not preach vaccination. They did not want churches closed as it cut into their tithes and offerings. They risked the health of their assemblies.

That was fun. They don’t seem any worse than other bands of that era.

England doesn't do much of that these days. They have listened to the science.

Britain has some of the highest rates of vaccination in the world, so my guess is maybe the virus is starting to burn out ?

Up to now, it has infected about 1 in 10. And killed nearly 1 in 30 of those. There's still another 10 million with no vaccinations. With new strains evolving. And no restrictions on gatherings. And the graph is starting to rise again.

There'll be quite a few thousand more deaths to come.

    From the Guardian this morning:

According to data from the government coronavirus dashboard, the number of daily cases by date reported plummeted from a peak of 50,955 in England on Saturday 17 July to 20,290 cases on Tuesday 27 July, before rising to 27,524 on Thursday and falling to 26,241 on Friday.

Too early to say if Covid infections are falling in England, experts warn

It is strange, and unexplained. Interestingly, despite the lifting of restrictions they are still being followed by the great majority; masks are worn, social distancing is observed, hands are sanitised at shop doorways. It seems that the British are being pretty sensible this time. Despite shortages in many shops there is no sign of the hoarding of toilet rolls or flour.
