HOUSTON (AP) -- In the Ethiopian language, she is called Dinknesh -- a name that means the wonderful, the fabulous, the precious.
But to most of the world, she is known as Lucy, a 3.2 million-year-old fossil whose discovery 33 years ago yielded then-unparalleled insights to the origins of humankind...

Record Number of Americans Lack Health Insurance

Federal report cites drop in employer-sponsored coverage

By Steven Reinberg, HealthDay Reporter

TUESDAY, Aug. 28 (HealthDay News) -- A record number of Americans are without health insurance, according to new U.S. Census Bureau statistics released Tuesday.
Some of the trend can be explained by employers who are curtailing coverage or making it too costly for lower income workers to afford, the report said.

My husband has had his business for over 30 years... and we provided, then cut to 1/2 paying for coverage and now he will have to cut it all together... we cannot afford it. Many are in the same situation as us...

Our overhead is hurting our business and health care is one of the biggest...he is trying hard to hold on & keep the health insurance ... I am not sure what will happen. If we do not make cuts, there will not be a business left.

For those who are lead to pray, please pray for us and his employees.

My 11-year-old daughter and I just did her back-to-school shopping. Shopping for a 'tween is a little like being a presidential candidate—you try to find some middle ground in a world of clamorous extremes. I want her clothes to reflect the fact that she's still a girl, but....

(CNN) -- Federal and state health officials issued a consumer alert Thursday after nine people were sickened by contaminated beef.
A day before the start of what historically is a popular weekend for grilling, officials urged consumers to check the beef in their freezers and make sure it doesn't include possibly tainted meat.

Cleaning Up International Adoptions

By MICA ROSENBERG/ANTIGUA Fri Aug 31, 6:05 PM ET

Earlier this month, dozens of Guatemalan police, soldiers and government officials raided Casa Quivira, a foster home in the colonial town of Antigua. They took custody of 46 babies and accused the home of failing to issue the proper paperwork for adoptions. Worse, says Carmen de Wennier, Guatemala's Secretary for Social Welfare, Casa Quivira is being investigated for illegally trafficking infants, an accusation that its owners vehemently deny: "If these children were bought in the womb," de Wennier says, "that is a crime."

Comet-like star streaks through Milky Way

WASHINGTON (Reuters)
-- A large star in its death throes is leaving a huge, turbulent tail of oxygen, carbon and nitrogen in its wake that makes it look like an immense comet hurtling through space, astronomers said on Wednesday.

This dying star is shedding material that will be recycled into new stars, planets and possibly even life.

Monster spider web spun in Texas

WILLS POINT, Texas (AP) -- Entomologists are debating the origin and rarity of a sprawling spider web that blankets several trees, shrubs and the ground along a 200-yard stretch of trail in a North Texas park.

Officials at Lake Tawakoni State Park say the massive mosquito trap is a big attraction for some visitors, while others won't go anywhere near it.

Astronomers Find Enormous Hole in the Universe

Astronomers have found an enormous hole in the Universe, nearly a billion light-years across, empty of both normal matter such as stars, galaxies, and gas, and the mysterious, unseen "dark matter." While earlier studies have shown holes, or voids, in the large-scale structure of the Universe, this new discovery dwarfs them all.....
