The United States may have once been a "great nation of Christians" but it has never been a "Christian nation."

Representative Republic != Theocracy

Freedom of INDIVIDUAL RELIGIOUS EXPRESSION AND PRACTICE is a basic right of everyone under the Constitution. This also is quite in-line with the Judeo-Christian respect of the freewill that God granted us. IMO Regardless of the good intentions a Christian theocracy would end up no less tyrannical than the theocracy currently gripping Iran.

It is really strange that so many people do not understand the relationship of the Church and State that was established by the Constitution.

The Constitution was written to prevent two things;

1) To prevent a Theocracy where the Church had the power to execute, and

2) To prevent the State from establishing a State Religion.

The reason for these two items was the Protestants that established America had been persecuted and killed by the Established State Religions of Catholicism in Europe and the Church of England in England.

The Trail of Blood is a booklet by Dr. James Milton Carroll, published the year he died, 1931, which collects a series of five lectures given by Carroll on the history of Baptist churches. The copyright to this text belongs to Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Trail of Blood - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The way the Constitution prevents a Theocracy and an Established State Religion was to create Civil Law. Civil Law was to execute evil people as an act of the congregation (all the people) after a jury trial. Execution was totally removed from Church control.

The thing that has been lost in the concept of Separation of Church and State, is the concept that the State had the responsibility to execute, but the State did not have the right to define morals.

Defining morals was to be the Bible and Civil Law was never to violate the Bible. This was stated by Blackstone as follows.

William Blackstone: Of the Nature of Laws in General

William Blackstone's Commentaries on the Laws of England states, "This law of nature, being coeval with mankind and dictated by God himself, is of course superior in obligation to any other-It is binding over all the globe in all countries, and at all times; no human laws are of any validity, if contrary to this: and such of them as are valid derive all their force, and all their authority, mediately or immediately, from this original."

The key point stated by Blackstone is that law was dictated by God himself, it is superior to all other law, and that no laws contrary to the laws dictated by God are valid.

Separation of Church and State is being violated by the State when the State legalizes inappropriate contentography, abortion and homosexuality.

The only way Civil Law can ever be good law is for Civil Law and God's Law to be consistent.

Separation of Church and State is being violated by the State when the State legalizes inappropriate contentography, abortion and homosexuality.

Actually, we could look at this in the inverse too. The State is obeying the Separation of Church and State because it isn't defining anything (neither inappropriate contentography, abortion or homosexuality) as immoral. And because the State isn't defining these things as immoral or moral it is in keeping with the Separation doctrine (as you define it). By that account then the State would be defining morals by legislating specifically against these things. Because it's not, it isn't saying that they are moral/immoral, and allowing the person to decide that for themselves (guided by their Church).

Socialism is motivated evil.

Both Democrat and Republicans have bought into Socialism over the years (Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, now the new Health Care bill) and over the next two years our nation will undergo a fundamental change in the finance, automotive and healthcare industries from an administration that is neither pro-Christian or pro-Israel.

Socialism is also anti-Semitic. It seeks the destruction of the State of Israel and the eradication of Jewry from the earth. Many in our State Department (Democrat or Republican) have pushed the Palestinian / Arab policy of a judenrein Middle East. [ I remember reading statements from the Reagan Administration's Secretary of State James Baker whose hatred of Israel was quite well known ].

Socialism is also anti-Christian as it shuts down the presentation of the Gospel both from within and without, Christian education (secondary, university) and seeks to destroy the very fabric of the Christian family, in the favor of the state.

As Karl Marx stated, Socialism is but a stepping stone to Marxist Communism. Lenin stated that for Socialism to "seek its own victory", 10-20% of the electorate must be "liquidated" in order for Socialism to claim "Mission Accomplished."

Socialism is motivated evil from the very bowels of Satan.

No, it's an economic system.

They're bought into socialism more than that. You forgot about the 'motivated evil' that is the army, road maintenance, education, civil service, justice system, the space program, research and development, transportation, agriculture, public landscaping and gardening, disaster relief and national/international aid.

Of course, I'm sure you think all those things are evil and should be stopped too. Anything your taxes goes towards is part of a socialised system that has existed within the US for decades.

Socialism is also anti-Semitic. It seeks the destruction of the State of Israel and the eradication of Jewry from the earth.
No it doesn't. It's an economic system - it has no prejudices at all on account of having no brain and not even being alive. What you said is like saying guns want everyone dead.

Many in our State Department (Democrat or Republican) have pushed the Palestinian / Arab policy of a judenrein Middle East. [ I remember reading statements from the Reagan Administration's Secretary of State James Baker whose hatred of Israel was quite well known ].
That's nice. Has nothing to do with socialism.

Socialism is also anti-Christian as it shuts down the presentation of the Gospel both from within and without, Christian education (secondary, university) and seeks to destroy the very fabric of the Christian family, in the favor of the state.
Really? How?

As Karl Marx stated, Socialism is but a stepping stone to Marxist Communism.
Indeed he did. He viewed the road to Communism as part of an inevitable process that would happen without any need for effort at all - it would happen by itself.

Lenin stated that for Socialism to "seek its own victory", 10-20% of the electorate must be "liquidated" in order for Socialism to claim "Mission Accomplished."
Leninism =/= Marxism. You should read up on the differences, it's interesting stuff. Socialism and Communism come in many different flavours, so you need to make sure you know which one you're talking about.

Socialism is motivated evil from the very bowels of Satan.
No it's not.

Sith,

Thank you for responding to my post.

Socialism is that aspect of semi-limited freedom before the high water mark of semi-autonomous government ends and just before government totalitarian control begins.

The Nazi regime did not emerge overnight. The SA, Nazi Party and Hitler's inner circle spent ten years electing small numbers to office, putting officials in high places of authority within the German government and eventually saturating the left-over remains of the Weimar Republic with coffee-can hat wearing stosstruppen. By the time Hindenburg made HItler Chancellor, it was a fait accompli.

Socialism is the precipice. There is no stepping back. No nation in history has ever pulled back from state-control, whether British (who continue to remain submerged in an AIDS-like "dole"drum) or Germany (who murdered 22,000,000 in the process).

The USSR liquidated 67,000,000 and Mao's China 74,000,000. The numbers on Cuba stand at roughtly 345,000 who ended up in mass graves due to the "socialism" on that tiny island. As Che once said, "for us to be successful, we must liquidate as many as we can." *

ITEM: Socialism is not about the individual; Socialism is the state.

I must disagree with your comment that it happens by itself. Nothing ever happens by itself. Man, out of fear, hatred, contemp or love makes things happen, moves things to happen, causes things to happen. Evil results when good men remain silent.

Unfortunately our President, and his cabinet are Socialist-oriented. We hope and pray for a return to family values, return to the Constitution, a return to respect, honor, integrity and strong virtue - the real social(ism) that we beleive in.

Whcih, not coincidentally, are both concepts that you want to undermine.

The State will not, nor will it ever be, under the thumb of anybody's church. get over it.

Except Nazis weren't Socialists.

ITEM: Socialism is not about the individual; Socialism is the state.

A subtle but important distinction must be made between the statement 'Socialism killed X numbers of people' versus the statement that 'People acting in the name of Socialism killed X numbers of people.' There were and certainly are Socialists who did not participate in nor approve of the killings. To lump them co-equally with murderers is an injustice.
Indeed, using the logic shown above it could be said 'Christianity killed X numbers of people' rather than saying 'People acting in the name of Christianity killed X numbers of people.' Do you see the distinction and why it's important? To use the later one would be an injustice to Christians who never participated in any killing.
What's also clear is that there is nothing inherent about Socialism as an economic theory that mandates the murder of people.

Unfortunately our President, and his cabinet are Socialist-oriented. We hope and pray for a return to family values, return to the Constitution, a return to respect, honor, integrity and strong virtue - the real social(ism) that we beleive in.

Yes...did you know that socialists start each day by killing kittens and devouring them in their gaping sharp-toothed maws?

Socialism is also anti-Semitic. It seeks the destruction of the State of Israel and the eradication of Jewry from the earth.

I think you have democratic socialism and social democracy confused with Hitler's National Socialism, which really was socialism in name only.
Socialism is also anti-Christian

Wrong. Marx was anti-religious, but this doesn't mean socialism itself is.

While both "clirus" and "Brother Mark" summarily dismiss "socialism" as evil, anti-Christian ..........., they fail to look at the "bigger picture."

According to the Global Peace Index Rankings (2009), those "evil," "socialist" nations are also among the most peaceful and less violent (internally and externally) states in the world. America on the other hand ranks 83rd, between such notables as the Ukraine (82nd) and Kazakhstan (84th).

Perhaps my "learned" collegues are unaware that "peace" and "love of neighbor" have a prominent role in Jesus' ministry in the New Testament.

Those interested in understanding how the scores were calculated can go to:

With all due respect, many of those who directly or indirectly influenced the writing of the Constitution were atheists, agnostics, deists or had no formal religious affliliation. They were not representatives of Protestantism as "clirus" suggests but were highly suspicious of the excesses of organized religion.

This would include James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Thomas Paine.
