So did Trump only help to boost Kim's image on the world stage?

You don't come to a negotiation to "set the table". This is not amateur hour. You have what you think will clinch the deal before you show up.

Trump walked. That sets the table for the next meeting.

It's all part of his schmoozing Kim.

That's what folks said after his 1st summit. He refused to believe his own intelligence community on what they said about N Korea. But he was totally willing to believe Kim's claims about Otto.

But sure, I believe you're right that it's all about his schmoozing Kim, so Kim will then schmooze Trump's ego. It's sure as heck not about actually accomplishing anything.

We can see exactly how Trump did. Your cheer leading is not going to change the fact Trump overplayed his hand. He offered the exact same deal every other president has had on the table which all parties knew would be rejected. His saving grace is he was smart enough not to accept the shoddy deal Kim was pushing. Art of the deal my left foot. Art of hubris and lack of listening to those in the know.

Not only that....the ‘deal’ he wants with Nth Korea is almost identical with the one he cancelled with Iran.

I wonder if anyone can guess why...

(Hint: the answer rhymes with ‘diorama’....)

Trump got nothing.

Kim got the most powerful man in the world to fly half way around the world to not just meet him, but exalt him in front of the world's media.

Trump embarrassed your country and insulted countless others by expressing his respect for a murderous dictator.

Clearly he didn't schmooze enough.

Donald will have to sing Kim's praises even more between now and the next time Kim wants him to fly halfway around the world to praise him some more to his face.

The meetings themselves are a great accomplishment.

That just shows that NK can't provide the same level of transportation for their leader. Trump can go anywhere in the world, Kim can't. It was nice of Trump to not make it too hard for Kim to attend the meeting. But of course the location of the meeting had important significance, which overrides all these objections.

... for North Korea. Presidents usually send cabinet members or diplomats to negotiate, but all Kim had to do was dangle something shiny, and Donald himself obediently came running.

Pretty sure the people of North Korea have mastered the art of flight.

It was nice of Trump to not make it too hard for Kim to attend the meeting.

Donald's never been shy about appeasing and accommodating dictators.

But of course the location of the meeting had important significance, which overrides all these objections.

Indeed -- better late than never; Donald finally made it to Vietnam.

(and now that he, too, has been shot down there, he owes John McCain's family an apology)

Didn't Trump initiate the meetings?

What Kim got was the fact of having been in the news headlines for a few days, but other than for that, it is hard to see how he could be said to have had his standing in the world boosted when the other party so summarily walked out on him.

Maybe there's some place on Earth where being 'left at the altar' could make you seem triumphant, but there cannot be many.

But without any accomplishment they will be remembered as photo ops only.
