Small Town Paper Omits Son's Husband From Mother's Obit

Is it normal to include spouse names in an obituary? Typically, I think only children and grandchildren are included.

Obituaries usually have whatever the family wants to put in them within the space confines for the obit. Funeral homes will often do the submitting for the family but the family will generally say what they want in it and approve it.

If the paper has an issue with whatever is written, either due to content or length, they should not take it upon themselves to make edits like that without approval from the family. Either get approval for those changes or don't run it.

Disgraceful. If the paper had a problem with using the term ‘husband’ due to religious objections, they should have replaced it with partner.

Agreed. It is disgraceful, and pathetic.

I think it's really pathetic to still have religious based discrimination in this country today.

Every single movie, every single tv show, every single soap opera. You know, if a person doesn't like to see straight or gay couples kiss and flaunt their relationship in public, then they can look the other way. It's rather simple to do and the person will be minding their own business in the process.
