Slander/Bearing False Witness

De 5:20 "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor."

Ps 41:6 "Whenever one comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it abroad."

Jer 9:4 "Beware of your friends; do not trust your brothers. For every brother is a deceiver, and every friend a slanderer."

Ps 38:20 "Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good."

It is slander to misrepresent a person's meaning and intention. Case in point: Mr 14:58 "We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this man-made temple and in three days will build another, not made by man.’" In my personal experience I have comes across many critics whose intention is not to listen but rather to try and find a way to misread what is said so as to spread slander. Therefore in criticizing others make sure your assessment is accurate. For "every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment." Mt 12:36
