(CLV) Ro 14:1
Now the infirm in the faith be taking to yourselves, but not for discrimination of reasonings.

(CLV) Ro 14:2
One, indeed, is believing to eat all things, yet the infirm one is eating greens.

(CLV) Ro 14:3
Let not him who is eating be scorning him who is not eating. (fasting) Yet let not him who is not eating (fasting) be judging him who is eating, for God took him to Himself.

Not eating is called fasting.

(CLV) Ro 14:4
Who are you who are judging Another's domestic? To his own Master he is standing or falling. Now he will be made to stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

(CLV) Ro 14:5
One indeed, is deciding for one day rather than another day, yet one is deciding for every day. Let each one be fully assured in his own mind.

(CLV) Ro 14:6
He who is disposed to the day, is disposed to it to the Lord; and he who is eating, is eating to the Lord, for he is thanking God. And he who is not eating, (fasting) to the Lord is not eating, (fasting) and is thanking God.

10 times within 6 verses we see the word eating; but some completely ignore the word eating; and want to make this about the Sabbath. Nowhere was the sabbath mentioned in this passage. As a matter of fact, the Sabbath isn't mentioned in this whole letter.

This passage tells the readers not to squabble over which days to fast. YHWH gave no commands on which days to fast.

We can find an example of these set fast days in Luke 5: 33-35

This passage has nothing to do with days for fasting.

Note that it says that those that are weak in the faith eat herbs, meaning they avoid meat. So firstly, its not about not eating, for some reason those who are weak in the faith are avoiding eating meat.

Well the reason is because firstly this was written to the Romans and they were mostly gentile Christians. Now meat that were offered to idols would end up in the meat markets and you could not distinguish which meat was offered and which was not. So many of these new converts still struggled with the believe that if you eat meat offered to idols you would be unclean and its a sin. So they would avoid meat altogether to avoid accidentally eating this meat. Paul addressed this on another occasions much more directly in 1 Cor 8. So also, there were special days these offerings took place and they were special days, similar to the holy days the Jews also had where they made special sacrifices. Some still view these days as being holy and special. Paul's advice is the general church to avoid conflict is for those who are more mature and understand that these days are not special of themselves, and it doesn't matter if a meat was offered to an idol or not (since an idol is not a thing), to not judge or condemn those who are weak and still battle with this. Even though Paul himself spoke more strongly against it in Corinthians.

Have you ever heard of a vegetable fast?

I have. They're quite common.

These are two different letters, to two different groups of people, in two different cities, facing two different sets of circumstances.

Let's not conflate the two.

Sabbath was never seen as a fast, it was always seen as a festival or a feast. A celebration to God for his goodness to us. That is so cool. It's amazing to think but God wants to party with us wants us to have a good time and wants to enjoy it with us. How awesome
