Are there any studies at all which serve to highlight that marital relations tend to be unstable if both the husband and wife have high IQ's and advanced educational qualifications?
(1) The most famous example is perhaps Albert Einstein and his first wife Mileva Maric, a mathematician who assisted his initial work on Relativity.
Although Einstein and his wife had both studied Mathematical Physics at Zürich his knowledge of mathematics was somewhat lacking compared to his partner - As physics was his main preoccupation to the detriment of mathematical studies as an undergraduate student.
However, they eventually divorced as they were both intellectual competitors, and constantly at loggerheads with each other.
Subsequently, Einstein married his second cousin who lacked the high IQ and educational background of his first wife.
Consequently, his second marriage remained stable until his death in 1956.
(2) Richard Dawkins was formerly married to an Oxford biologist and academic, but their relationship ultimately failed since they were intellectual peers who didn't get on with each other.
Subsequently, Dawkins married actress Lala Ward who had no pretensions at all to be his intellectual equal, which is why his second marriage is far more successful than his previous marriage.
(3) Although an intellectual, Stephen Hawking's first wife never considered herself to be his equal, as she had failed to get into Cambridge and had to settle for Westfield College in London, where many years later she obtained her PhD in Modern Languages.
However, they eventually divorced not on the grounds of intellectual friction between the husband and wife, but because his wife grew tired of looking after her disabled husband.
Thus, Example 3 serves to highlight the fact that both the husband and wife can be intellectuals, as long as it is clear at the outset "Who is intellectually superior".
But in any case, it should be clear WHO is intellectually superior at the outset, regardless of whether or not they are both intellectuals, and regardless of their background in education.
Such is the formula for marital stability and success between the husband and wife.
Discuss.
