There exists in me and always has existed in me the nagging urge to create things. I am good at creative writing and cannot shake the urge to try and do it and I know that if I'm good enough at it I can make a living at it and use it as a springboard for other creative pursuits that I'd like to do, use money to make money as it were. I have a whole plan laid out and goals I would like to achieve but I don't know if these plans are God's plans and asking God rarely gets an answer out of him quickly (I hope his spirit moves some of you to speak on his behalf). I have the urge to just start trying to achieve all of these things but I don't know if I should move.

I know that God often lets someone know their purpose in their life by planting these kinds of strong desires and talents within them but I just want God to tell me if he'll bless what I'm about to do or if he has other plans and I should just not waste my time. I ask God about these things but I don't know how to hear from him. I tried asking for an answer from God and then quieting myself so the spirit can speak to me but that always just leads to frustration. I ask him to speak through circumstances but so far nothing. I know that God speaks to his children and he has spoken to me clearly many times in my life but it's just not happening right now and I have an urge to move and circumstances in my life that favor moving that conflicts with the maxim of waiting on God to speak. I'm typing this because I'm hoping that God may clearly speak through one of you idk.

God leads us in two ways; through His Holy Spirit, and through His Word; He does not lead by circumstance. you're doing well to seek Him in prayer, and listen for His answer; but are you seeking His answer in His word? the way you hear His still, small voice is to incline your ear by listening to His Word.

(Psa 37:3) Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
(Psa 37:4) Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
(Psa 37:5) Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
(Psa 37:6) And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
(Psa 37:7) Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
(Psa 37:8) Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

(Isa 58:1) Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
(Isa 58:2) Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.
(Isa 58:3) Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.
(Isa 58:4) Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high.
(Isa 58:5) Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?
(Isa 58:6) Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
(Isa 58:7) Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
(Isa 58:8) Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.
(Isa 58:9) Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
(Isa 58:10) And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:
(Isa 58:11) And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
(Isa 58:12) And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
(Isa 58:13) If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
(Isa 58:14) Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

right now, you likely don't know if your current desires align with His desires for you; but rest assured that if not, His desires are much much better than yours. when you delight yourself in the Lord, He gives you His desires for you in your heart - and brings them to pass.

I read the Bible daily but my problem with him speaking in his word is that my question requires specifics that the Bible does not supply. There is no verse in the Bible that tells me whether I should do this or not because I was not even an idea in my parent's head when it was written and neither were my parents. The Bible is written for us but not to us. I am going to need specifics, specifically a "yes, do this" or "no, do not do this." As for speaking through circumstances God does speak through circumstances and has spoken through circumstances and does so many times in the Bible. I am submitting to God's will; I would not be asking God what he wants me to do if I were not submitting to his will.

but it does tell you how to perceive His Holy Spirit's leading, and gives you a framework to measure what you think you're hearing; for example, He tells us in the Bible to not exploit the poor, so this should influence you to not make your fortune as a slum lord (which is legal according to man's laws, and can be very profitable).

you want Him to ok your plans for life; He wants you to learn how to follow His decision-by-decision leading each day - who do you think should yield?

please provide specific examples from the New Testament of God leading by circumstances after Jesus had risen from the dead (the Old Testament - which is to say the Old Testament of God's will - was for people who lived prior to the giving of the Holy Spirit; they had to ask the priests, judges and kings of Israel to inquire of God for them, we have God dwelling within us through His Holy Spirit, and we can ask Him directly)

when you accept Jesus as Savior, you also accept Him as Lord - He saves you in this life by leading you; if you seek his direction on little things each day, He will lead you step by step to what He's gifted you to do - if He showed you the whole plan all at once, you'd likely get overwhelmed and give up

(Jer 10:23) O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

(Psa 37:23) The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
(Psa 37:24) Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
(Psa 37:25) I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
(Psa 37:26) He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.
(Psa 37:27) Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.
(Psa 37:28) For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
(Psa 37:29) The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
(Psa 37:30) The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.
(Psa 37:31) The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

(Pro 4:20) My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
(Pro 4:21) Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
(Pro 4:22) For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

(Jos 1:8) This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
(Jos 1:9) Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

(Pro 2:1) My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
(Pro 2:2) So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
(Pro 2:3) Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
(Pro 2:4) If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
(Pro 2:5) Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
(Pro 2:6) For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
(Pro 2:7) He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
(Pro 2:8) He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
(Pro 2:9) Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
(Pro 2:10) When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
(Pro 2:11) Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
(Pro 2:12) To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;
(Pro 2:13) Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
(Pro 2:14) Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
(Pro 2:15) Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:
(Pro 2:16) To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
(Pro 2:17) Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
(Pro 2:18) For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
(Pro 2:19) None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.
(Pro 2:20) That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.
(Pro 2:21) For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
(Pro 2:22) But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

Think practically. While you can dedicate your free time to creative writing, it's probably not wise to dedicate all of your time to it. Lest you miss out on opportunities for advancement in other less fulfilling avenues. If you are really interested in investing all of your time into literary pursuits then be prepared for the outcomes. Success might not be immediate, it might not even come at all. There are plenty of starving artists who would have been better off living normal lives in average jobs.

As whether God wants you to writer, that's up you to determine. Though I would ask, if your goal is to be a writer, what are you doing now to accomplish that?

If your dreams are righteous and holy then I don't see anything wrong in pursuing it. With the money you make you can help those less fortunate than you and that way you will be doing God's will.

My humble advice—search your heart and your motives, have your surrendered this dream to God? Is His Kingdom and Righteousness your first priority, no matter what comes of this dream? If you can answer yes, you will have peace to move, because when we are for God, He loves seeing our smaller dreams come true too. Just be open and ready for any other signs from Him along the way. Blessings! :)
