I read the Bible daily but my problem with him speaking in his word is that my question requires specifics that the Bible does not supply. There is no verse in the Bible that tells me whether I should do this or not because I was not even an idea in my parent's head when it was written and neither were my parents. The Bible is written for us but not to us. I am going to need specifics, specifically a "yes, do this" or "no, do not do this." As for speaking through circumstances God does speak through circumstances and has spoken through circumstances and does so many times in the Bible. I am submitting to God's will; I would not be asking God what he wants me to do if I were not submitting to his will.
but it does tell you how to perceive His Holy Spirit's leading, and gives you a framework to measure what you think you're hearing; for example, He tells us in the Bible to not exploit the poor, so this should influence you to not make your fortune as a slum lord (which is legal according to man's laws, and can be very profitable).
you want Him to ok your plans for life; He wants you to learn how to follow His decision-by-decision leading each day - who do you think should yield?
please provide specific examples from the New Testament of God leading by circumstances after Jesus had risen from the dead (the Old Testament - which is to say the Old Testament of God's will - was for people who lived prior to the giving of the Holy Spirit; they had to ask the priests, judges and kings of Israel to inquire of God for them, we have God dwelling within us through His Holy Spirit, and we can ask Him directly)
when you accept Jesus as Savior, you also accept Him as Lord - He saves you in this life by leading you; if you seek his direction on little things each day, He will lead you step by step to what He's gifted you to do - if He showed you the whole plan all at once, you'd likely get overwhelmed and give up

(Pro 2:13) Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
(Pro 2:14) Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
(Pro 2:15) Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:
(Pro 2:16) To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
(Pro 2:17) Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
(Pro 2:18) For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
(Pro 2:19) None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.
(Pro 2:20) That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.
(Pro 2:21) For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
(Pro 2:22) But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
