Hi,

I have recently started to rework some of my old drawings (I finished this portraitt in April of last year). Although I'm not too happy with how it turned out (there are a lot of mistakes :D), I do think I can improve it a little by adding some sort of design or blur to the background.

Staedtler Mars Lumograph Graphite Pencils (layered, 2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B) and General's Charcoal Pencil (4B), Strathmore 400 Series Drawing Paper.)

Should I draw some sort of background?

This is excellent work. It doesn't need any background. Maybe just finish the arms, at least with an outline. Sometimes deliberately unfinished drawings or paintings are more interesting than full renderings.
