Should a Republican host the Oscars?
How unthinkable! Having successfully divided the American people, it wouldn't make sense of the same people now to treat all our citizens equally and with respect.

That kind of talk or idea is something they reserve for political debates, not for real life.

Tim Allen.

Maybe also Dennis Miller or Jeff Foxworthy.

Or how about a nice Libertarian compromise with Penn Gillette?
Definitely, Penn Jillette (or a Penn & Teller combo).

Miller's humor is just a little too weird to attract an audience.

It's an odd conundrum when the desire to achieve some ideal goal, such as objectively selecting a "best" actor, creates the illusion that the Oscars ever have been, ever will be, or ever could be politically, socially, or artistically neutral.

Why does Hollywood keep casting British actors
to play people from the South?
This is a form of discrimination.

Southerners should be played
by someone with a real Southern accent.
Sounds like a case of the dreaded "cultural appropriation," then.

I doubt a lot of right wingers would appreciate Penn Jilette. For example, he is an atheist and quite vocal about his views towards religion.

That's factually true so far as his personal views are concerned, but he doesn't make his comedy routines be a regurgitation of them in the manner of Stephen Colbert and some other late-night types.

Besides, if the question was about someone being capable of hosting who is not another in a long line of liberal entertainers, Penn Jillette, a Libertarian, certainly qualifies as do a number of other comics who are known to be or thought to be Republicans.

I'm sure republican comedy has improved significantly since the 2020 election.

With the likes of Joe Biden in office? Most Republican comedians probably can't believe their good fortune!
Just like democratic comedians couldn't believe their good fortune with trump.

Really, every comedian has an easier time when the people he opposes are in positions of rulership. It's always easier to make fun of those in power.

Yeah. That's probably fair to say. Of course, his main failing was that he has a funny way of talking. And then there's the hair. But Biden offers any comedian just sooo many more opportunities! ;)
