Anyone want to post what they are cooking for Shamrock day? I don't always cook special for that day but I will be this year.
I've never been quite clear on what is tradition.
I know there is cabbage and red potatoes and corn beef and a Ruben made by some.
My neighbor always cooked corn beef and cabbage with the red potatoes. Is the Ruben a left over thing to make. What part is an absolute part of tradition?
I'd like to hear the various thoughts on the food served.
Thanks for posting.

It falls on a Wednesday in Lent this year. That's a meatless day in my personal discipline. But I am going to make some soup that prominently features cabbage.
Thanks for posting. I hadn't thought of that.:)

Let me explain Western style fasting a bit. Firstly, it does not mean you do not eat -it can but it doesn't have to. It means you eat in a simpler fashion. This takes the form of very natural and usually inexpensive foods.

Fasting is a very personal exercise. It is between you and the Lord, possibly with some guidance from your pastor/priest. The point is not to deprive oneself but to remove distractions and to impose some discipline in one's life.

I usually observe meatless Friday. This typically pushes Western Christians to consume fish, eggs, or the various high protein legumes that day. During Lent, I also observe Wednesdays in the same fashion.

Now, if I happened to attend a parish named after St. Patrick, it would be appropriate to celebrate that day. Many years I may well celebrate the day but this year I will observe my fast.

I’m making Shepherd’s Pie. I found a nice recipe that’s simple with good reviews. Plus I want to use up some potatoes.

My younger daughter refuses to eat mashed potatoes right now. I made Shepherd's pie a few weeks ago and she convinced grandma to separate the rest of the filling from the mashed potatoes on her plate.

No one is going to celebrate ST PATTY'S day?

So far, I have beer on the menu. :)

But, @bèlla shepherd's pie is a tempting addition. That might happen.

ETA: Yeah, I'm going to the store now, lol.

I’ll be taking my mother-in-law for her last Moderna vaccine on St. Patrick’s day so it’s doubtful I’ll be making anything on that day unless I have some extra time. I need to drive out of town to take her.

I am sorry, I will miss your fixins and I was hoping you would get a minutes rest in your day somewhere:(

Oh no, no lamb. It has a peculiar taste to me, which is fine every ten years or so.
The closest I've ever come is a Gyro. I don't ever want to eat a lamb.

I went through that when I was little for a rather unusual reason. I am glad I got over it.:)
