Hey, somebody has to stick up for good ole Kirk, McCoy, Spock, and the boys! :p I actually liked TNG a lot and have met a few cast members of the show....but nothing beats TOS. Voyager and the DS9 don't interest me at all.
Dude, don't blaspheme DS9. Voyager I'm good with, as it was nice but not the best (IMHO--except Seven of Nine)....but DS9 WAS TRULY amongst the best I've ever seen. And growing up as a TNG fan, the show is truly the most captivating, IMHO.

No, I won't understand. Blasphemy to criticize the original series! off-putting and garish, pah....some consider Stewart's portrayal of Picard as stuffy and wimpy, pretentious and too full of himself. I like both of them but especially Kirk. Gotta love him...
Could never dig Kirk, as he sounded too...robitic...and slept with way too many women every episode. I enjoyed seeing him in "Startrek Generations"...and "Wrath of Khan", but that's it. For me, no one will ever be as commanding and powerful as Jean Luc Picard...and Stewart is truly one of the most brilliant/insightful and in-depth people I've ever witnessed, from his Shakespearian plays to the work he does with helping women out. Was shocked when I discovered the reasons why he aided women caught in Domestic violence since he was caught in being abused himsef:

The man is simply amazing...and I so appreciate how much diverse he is in real life compared with Kirk:

The original series smoked them in the sense that it burnt up quickly/gave off ALOT of eye smoke that bothered many...specifically in persons like Kirk. Can't beat Spoke, as he survives ANY sage and was in TNG as well as the latest STartrek Film--one I'm glad came out since it did a nice job at remaking the entire series from scratch and had a much better Captain Kirk in the form of Chris Pine :)

I will try to buy local no matter what... I know it competes with Trader's Joe and with our local chain...but if the prices are NOT right then like Joshua it will make it hard not to buy my regular organic from TJ.... even though I would want to support local farming. We will see how it goes.

While living in Michigan I had a farm delivering every Monday 30 dollars worth of groceries "a bushel" (sp?) it was great as I got a wonderful variety of veggies from April to September :) I wish they had something similar here. I totally loved it!

Of course this year I will plant a veggie garden. God willing it will grow....

It's getting to the point where many corporations behind the intentional corruption in the Food Industry are trying to put ALOT of pressure on local farming markets since the money flow is going away from them into the hands of local farmers...especially as it concerns urban gardening. In some places, you're not even allowed to grow food and raise chickens...

For more:

There is an agenda and many don't want farmers to see it....

If you can't appreciate the tremendous influence, huge ideas, great plots, and classic value Star Trek the original series brought to sci-fi, then I don't know what to say. Star Trek didn't "bother many." I have no clue where you get off saying that one. It's considered the greatest sci fi television show ever. It's like saying the Beatles bothered many with their hippie music (shrug)...I guess Star Trek bothered so many people that they re-ran it a zillion times across the US and every country around the world and they've had conventions with hundreds of thousands of fans and letter-writing campaigns, a series so beloved that they brought it back to the big screen in the 80's and 90's, yep, truly loathed ;)

I liked TNG

Except for Deanna Troi's mum in every part she was ever in, and the episode "Shades of Grey".

I didn't like Samuel Clemens character in a double episode Time's Arrow. But this is a minor set-back.

The whole 7th season had some trippy episodes

I liked Worf's head in later series.

Just out of curiosity, then why do you show Picard (albeit from Dune)??

At least you don't have him as Dr Armstrong in Lifeforce

It might be a woman thing - I didn't like Kirk either. He had a creepy vibe, like a guy I would avoid sitting next to on a bus. I can't really say why, except that he was a little too smooth somehow.

Apples and oranges, baby. No doubt if we're just talking ACTOR, Patrick Stewart dwarfs the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]. Stewart played Captain Picard, Gurney Halleck in Dune, Professor Xavier like you pointed out, etc. But I'm talking character also. Picard was more complex but Kirk would be the one I'd want in a pinch. I find his friendship with Spock and McCoy, especially Spock, to be powerful and deep. I also like how human Kirk is. He can be erratic, impatient, reactionary, and has plenty of flaws. But he also owns up to them and makes up for them tenfold. While Picard's Shakespearean perfection and polished British, suave, poetic soul is compelling, it's not very realistic compared to the flawed and all-too-human yet big-hearted original captain. Star Trek VI and Kirk's racist, angry, vengeful rant that later becomes a repentent, sincere, uniting hero, that's the essense of the original show.

although I like Kirk because he is the classic captain of the Enterprise, Picard was Professor X. game, set, match.

....and I am more of a Star Wars fan

If you read my post, it was in response to Deep Space Nine. I said I didn't care about that show. I never said I didn't like Patrick Stewart??? I said I didn't like Picard quite as much as the good ole original cap'n. I think people in here are confusing the actor and character :p Dude, I'm the biggest Dune fan ever and ADORE X-Men. To not like Patrick Stewart, shoot, possibly should merit deportation or a firing squad in my book! And I by far prefer Stewart to Shatner anytime. But in the whole context of the shows, I like Kirk a little better.

Star Wars and Star Trek....apples and oranges to the third power! ^_^ I'm a HUUUUGE Star Wars fan, too, bro. But I definitely prefer Trek.

I'm a staunch original series and TNG fan. I didn't even go see the new re-boot of Star Trek. I see it as a blasphemy....

although I like Kirk because he is the classic captain of the Enterprise, Picard was Professor X. game, set, match.

I will give Kirk that, there was a lot of social justice that was brought up on that show.

Hey, I thought this thread was about bottled water. :D How did we get on the subject of Star Trek? LOL My parents used to watch that. I never had an interest in it. Probably because I never cared for sci-fi, except for Star Wars. That's about it. :p

It's something in the water!

Yeah, I'm sitting here talking to my husband saying how this thread started something about bottled water and wasting plastic and now it's on Star Trek. He said something about degrees of separation, and I was like "Star Trek is in Space!" ^_^ :p
