I have seen in the store near me a couple of Korean beers in plastic bottles, not sure if that is how that beer is sold in South Korea or if it is just for when it is exported to other countries. I heard from a friend that in some Eastern European countries that is the only way you can buy beer.

In the US some sporting veunes and concert halls only sell beer in plastic bottles. I have heard two reasons for that- safety because people were using the glass beer bottles as a weapon (breaking it or throwing it like a missle) and clean up of the broken glass. I think this might be geographical though because I have been to a couple of games in the last year and the beer was poured into a plastic cup, no plastic bottled beer that I saw.

Here at sporting venues they serve beer in large plastic cups

They also had a service called a 'beer wench'. A young woman would be paid a small fee to go fetch your beer for you.

I don't know if this still continues in some places

Although I don't drink alcohol (not since 1986) I was wondering about this - is there any beer that comes in plastic bottles?

I know Miller Lite and a few other brands do. Not sure that counts as "beer" though. :D

There's also a home brewing kit that includes plastic bottles.

I make it a rule NEVER to drink anything that has a title ^_^ No Mr. Pibb, no Dr. Pepper. I find the doctor's credentials highly suspicious. Anything that has prune juice mixed with fizz and corn syrup, he couldn't possibly have graduated from medical school! :p And Mr. Pibb, well, with a name like that, I can't trust him at all.

We dont' have Dr Pepper here either - so I have to buy imported Dr Pepper!

We seriously need to start an Orthodox Star Trek thread but I suspect we don't have enough fans in TAW to support it! I'm alone in my Star Trek plus progressive rock fandom and guitar-playing I suspect. On a Catholic board I used to be a member of (shall remain nameless, Lord have Mercy!) I started a thread about guitar-players and goodness, it went on for like 12 pages! LOL! Pretty soon they all started talking about their own guitars and styles and I was in heaven! Then it happened with Star Trek and Dune! I was in seventh heaven. No such like in CF....yet! ^_^

Star Trek faves:
My top ten

Spectre of the Gun
Journey to Babel
A Taste of Armaggedon
The Enterprise Incident
Day of the Dove
Requiem for Methuselah
The Savage Curtain
Elaan of Troyius
Return of the Archons
The Squire of Gothos

I have a great love of the work of the late Charles Napier... but I believe in that episode Spock smirks

I particularly hated how Spock gave Bones instructions on how to re-connect his brain AS Bones was doing it.

the Alternative Factor is one I forgot to add.

Assignment: Earther I think was an attempt to start a spin-off series

As I am anti-social I have never been to a convention (I even get my groceries on-line)

However as I'm genetically half-American I'm pre-disposed to liking it.

(or is it pre-desposed???)

My favourites (from the original series) are:
What Are Little Girls Made Of?"
"The Corbomite Maneuver"
"Arena"
"Court Martial"
"A Taste of Armageddon"
The City on the Edge of Forever"
"The Trouble With Tribbles"
"The Paradise Syndrome"
"Day of the Dove"
"Wink of an Eye"
The Empath"
The Mark of Gideon"
"Requiem for Methuselah"

I'm not sure if you ever got Blake's 7 tv series. It has appalling special effects. But it is a twist on Star Trek. Terry Nation (who created it – he also created the Daleks) takes the 'arrow heard' logo and turns it literally on its side. In it the Federation is a system that are baddies

Also he has an episode that is a complete rip-off of Star Trek's Arena – excepting that two people from each crew are transported to the planet... and it's a battle against a 'baddie' human captain (as opposed to a 'gorn')

My least favourite character from any star trek series is Lwaxana Troi

Speaking of drinks and healthy natural food I was wondering what others thought about the issue of sweeteners / diet drinks. Splenda seems to be the safer choice etc. but was wondering what others thought about this. Water is my first choice. I love my water but every now and then it's nice to have a drink besides that isn't full of sugar. ...and when it comes to juice well... I'd rather get that by eating fruit.

Our divergent food preferences continue. I'd rather drink Draino than Dr. Pepper. That stuff should be given to terrorists in favor of water-boarding. Yuck.....

Oh man, how could I forget "The Empath?" Shoot! That's one of my top five favorites! That's a keeper, dude. John Erman directed that episode. He also directed the Outer Limits episode "Nightmare" that starred James Shigeta and Martin Sheen. Great, great OL episode. Both of them have Erman's weird minimalist abstract style where the sets are all black with weird geometric shapes focusing on ideas over realism. Love it. Always have that strange quality about them. The Empath is just awesome. Gotta love the Vyans!

Recently I got myself (from Amazon) a book on recipes and this was not in there!

(it says it's currently unavailable)

You shouldn't have said that. You remind me of a quote re: Winston Churchill

“Lady Nancy Astor: Winston, if you were my husband, I'd poison your tea.
Churchill: Nancy, if I were your husband, I'd drink it.”

No, I won't understand. Blasphemy to criticize the original series! off-putting and garish, pah....some consider Stewart's portrayal of Picard as stuffy and wimpy, pretentious and too full of himself. I like both of them but especially Kirk. Gotta love him...

I grew up on ST:TNG and ST:Voyager. You'll understand if I found Shatner's acting off-putting, the setting garish and nevertheless adore Spock.

Since my family didn't raise me Christian, I always say that I was taught morality by ST. :)

Hey, somebody has to stick up for good ole Kirk, McCoy, Spock, and the boys! :p I actually liked TNG a lot and have met a few cast members of the show....but nothing beats TOS. Voyager and the DS9 don't interest me at all.
