    Can't believe it's September already!
Unfortunately I slept far too well last night and I've needed a coffee kick start this morning to wake me up - as going to Parish Communion at 9am.

Fastest summer in history, fastest August in history. We are headed to church out of town today, 1h20m each way. We often do this especially on communion Sunday.

In two weeks we are headed to Maine salmon fishing for a week, which I'm sure will speed up Sept too. The months go by like weeks lately it seems.

Not a very big turn out today for our 9am service, but a good time of fellowship, prayer and praise with piano based hymns: "King of kings, majesty", "Brother Sister Let me serve you", "Tell out my Soul". Sermon was based on the Parable of the Guests and the importance of taking the lowest seat at the banquet so we will be honoured by our Host (Luke 14:7-12).
After a very busy week, I felt very tired this morning and didn't feel like going to church at all, but I knew I had to go. When we said the Prayer of Humble Access, I felt very moved as I knew that I wasn't there because of my own merit, or anything I had achieved or done, but because of the wonderful love of Christ that welcomed me to his table.

Off-topic dear ones, but, may I ask? What level of concern did the speaker place on the positioning of oneself?

He quoted Jesus's instruction in Matthew 23:12 "he who humbles himself will be exalted" and used a really good illustration. Years ago, he attended a conference where someone with a more senior position in the church let the clergy take part in the more exciting parts such as mission, evangelism and teaching, whilst they remained in the kitchen preparing sandwiches and making sure that everyone was looked after and taken care of. He illustrated that it was the tasks people considered to be "less important" that God used to make such a big difference to that day. And it was through the person's faithfulness that many people were blessed.

It's just how we operate, it's missions and how it is when you get involved in missions.. We have pastors in Africa that travel to three churches on Sundays by bicycle, return Monday morning. So 9 Am in one Church, noon in another, evening service in the final one. We had a pastor die on one of the off shore islands down south, so another one flew there each Sunday till a new pastor got placed there. We don't analyze we just go. I get a kick out of the messages we see here in the forums where people whine about church or church life or not having any, what ever, just get up and go. I understand being sick, in fact we have gone to them in that case and maybe 35 miles away.

Cat, it's just what we do is all.

Are you all enjoying an extra day off work or too old to care?

Dave, when people are retired Labor Day is just another Monday.

For my nieces and nephews, it is a day off school.

I can't speak for all retired people, but for kids in school it is.
