The Planck Sat will be a deep-IR satellite with a lens 3.5 meters across. :D It'll have 10 times the resolution of the WMAP that gave us so much info about the cosmic background radiation, so we'll get some incredible data off this sucker.

Our various theories about the origins of the universe make certain predictions about the structure of the cosmic background radiation that may be observable with this higher-resolution camera, so we may actually get an answer to 'is our universe cyclic?' 'Is it a singular event?' 'Was it created by colliding brains in higher-dimensional space, a quantum fluctuation, or something else?'

Exciting! We're on the verge of knowing the origin of everything. Though I suspect once we know this, more questions will be raised. Think there's a chance these observations may open the doorway for more viable FTL travel theories?

I think the universe was created by magic some 13.7 billion years ago, scientifically speaking of course.

They're too busy rolling marbles in different directions around billion-dollar hoola-hoops, looking for something to add to their Periodic Table.

So true! But that's what's so exciting about science. We'll continue to answer these questions but they'll just lead to more answers. If we found the answer to everything, things would get pretty boring!

Just out of curiosity, who is that that Roger Federer is talking to?

He looks like a young Ivan Lendl --- my all-time favorite.

Rafael Nadal. Fed's biggest rival who took over the No. 1 spot last year. Probably the greatest clay court player ever.

Lendl was great. It's a shame he never was able to get that Wimbledon title!

    Okay --- thanks!

For the record, my wife is a fan of Pete Sampras and Jimmy Connors.

I know! Science is one of the fields where proving yourself wrong is exciting! And where raising more questions is half the fun (the other half being answering them. :D)
