"People have wrestled with the mystery of why the universe exists for thousands of years..

However, in recent years a few physicists and cosmologists have started to tackle it.

Their admittedly controversial answer is that the entire universe, from the fireball of the Big Bang to the star-studded cosmos we now inhabit, popped into existence from nothing at all. It had to happen, they say, because "nothing" is inherently unstable.

Why is there something rather than nothing?

What foolishness.

dad, just because a concept is beyond your understanding does not make it "foolishness". Why don't you ask questions on the parts that you do not understand? People here will help you.

"Science" doesn't claim that. A few physicists claim it, and when pressed on what they mean by "nothing" it turns out they don't mean nothing.

It is "nothing" as most creationists would define it. And it is more than "A few". It appears to be the accepted paradigm.

Dreaming up that the universe came from sweet nothing without being able to define that or you being able to discuss it is the quintessential essence of idiocy.

I don't know what that means.
Part of science. You admit they are talking nonsense?
Yes they are talking nonsense, but "universe from nothing" sounds intriguing enough (especially to an atheist) to make for good book sales.

Once again, just because you don't understand it does not make it nonsense. You need to remember that when hear that there are people believe that an invisible man in the sky created the Earth they think that is nonsense too. The difference between your beliefs and their is that they can find evidence that supports their beliefs.

Why do you think that this ides is nonsense?

Theology claims that the universe came from nothing at all.

Creation ex nihilo means ex nihilo.
It is one thing for God to create out of nothing. It is another thing to invoke random magic as science does.

LOL, it is okay for your God to work magic, but there can't be a natural explanation.

Once again, when Christian scientists study this they are trying to find out how God made the universe. You try to limit God. Why do you believe in such a limited God?

Ok, so show us at least a galaxy that popped out of nowhere? A solar system? Heck, how about a rabbit?

That is not the way it works. You can't fight an idea when you are totally ignorant of the science behind it. For long term matter it appears that one gets a universe or nothing. I said that we can still see matter popping in and out of existence all of the time.
