  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

...for the first time, ever. At the Knights of Columbus hall I picked up a rosary, and this morning my son and I said it together for the first time. He had a spelling bee competition this morning, so I suggested we say it together and ask for God's help. It was a good experience, although the scrolling up and down the website to make sure I had the prayers right broke the flow a bit... ;)

As an aside, my son did make it to the second round of the finals, but didn't win. He was upset, but he's recovered and will be back next year for more. And next year we'll be better prepared.

The free tapes and CD's from Catholocity.com are also quite good, especially when saying the rosary with children. It helps pace it, so to speak.

I have really little kids(6,3, & 1), but what has really helped them is having pictures to look at, either placards of the mysteries or pictures from a Catholic children's Bible. I really wanted to help them learn how to meditate on the mysteries while saying the rosary, that the rosary isn't just repeating a bunch of prayers, but a meditation. I have found consistency the most effective tool- when we pick a regular time of day, and a regular place- our family rosary goes much better. Be greatly encouraged and steadfast! My 6 and 3 year olds both know all of the prayers- my 6 year olds favorite prayer is the Hail! Holy Queen. I would advise you that saying the rosary together is so incredibly awesome- that there will absolutely be attacks by the Adversary, which is why I heartily recommend some sort of standard routine, to keep from being swayed.

I just smiled ear to ear when I read your post! I think after taking them to Mass, the rosary is the best gift parents can give their children!

God Bless!

hey shannon, can you recommend a good Catholic children's Bible?

I can; its the Golden Children's Bible; it's available on Amazon. I use it as part of my hoemschooling curriculum. It's illustrated (although I'm a bit  about the blond Jesus), and easy for children to understand.

The reason I use it is because it was recommended as part of the Catholic homeschool curriculum I'm using, the Angelicum Academy (www.angelicum.net).

Although great, the Golden Children's Bible is not Catholic, per se- and as a stylistic preference I really do not like the Aryan Jesus pictures- they just creep me out! The one I use primarily with my little ones and with my 5th grade RE kids is The Catholic Children's Bible by Regina Press, ISBN#0882710583.

I prefer the Catholic Children's Bible because there are clear headings such as :"Peter is made head of the Church"

Also if you don't have one I heartily recommend the St. Joseph's edition of The Baltimore Catechism. There are three levels 0, 1, &2 for different aged kids. They have really awesome pictures! While not standard issue, my 5th graders get lots of their teaching from this. I just find that they are straight forward and easy to understand.

anyone Remember Catacism? i Remember always getting in Trouble of Drawling a Mustache on little baby Jesus :(

Hee hee. I was a rambuncious, impertinent little brat! My sister & I drove all the CCD teachers crazy. Not something to be proud of, I know. But I bet some of them still chuckle once in a while over some of the frustrations we caused.
