There is no biblical record of "do not covet" before Sinai, no Biblical record of "Do not take God's name in vain" before Sinai.

But Bible scholars in almost all Christian denominations admit that the TEN - all TEN - are included in the moral law of God given to mankind in Eden and still valid to this very day. So even though even in the NT there is no repeat of "do not take God's name in vain" it is "still a sin" - the TEN remain. Having "the first commandment with a promise" as Honor your father and mother - Eph 6:1-2. Still valid.

Huge "hint" in Ex 20:11, Gen 26:5, Mark 2:27.

    The point remains.

The word for "Sabbath" first appears in Genes 2:3.

Daniel 7 prophesied that a power would think to change of times and laws.

    Daniel 7:23
Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
    • Fourth kingdom upon the earth—pagan Rome.
    • Diverse from all kingdoms (before it)—Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece (Daniel 2, Daniel 7).
    Daniel 7:24
And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.
    • Ten horns/ten kings—divided Rome.
    • Another after them—papal Rome; little horn (Daniel 7:8, Daniel 8:9).
    • Diverse from the first (previous kingdoms).
    • Subdues three kings—Heruli, Vandals, Ostrogoths (Daniel 7:8).
    Daniel 7:25
And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
    • Speaks great words against the most high—blasphemy (Revelation 13:6).
    • Wears out the saints of the most High—Christian persecution.
    • Thinks to change times and laws—Sabbath to Sunday, et al.
    • Given into his hand a time (year), times (2 years) and the dividing of time (half a year); 3 1/2 years.
In just three consecutive verses, Daniel prophesied the rise of the power that would think to change times and laws of God (the Sabbath, et al) and persecute the saints for a period of 1260 years. There is only one power that came out of Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome, that fits the prophecy.

The book of Daniel was sealed up (Daniel 9:24, the 70-week prophecy), only to be opened at the time of the end (Revelation 10:9-10, Revelation 5). Since the Reformers first began to understand Daniel and Revelation, this truth has moved forward.

Unfortunately, most churches have fallen away from these important prophetic insights that were gained, because of the very changes to times and laws of the prophecy.

God's Word makes it clear that the NEW Covenant is just for "Israel and Judah" in Jer 31:31-34, and is unchanged in the NT Heb 8:6-12.

God's Word makes it clear that "he is not a Jew who is one outwardly" Rom 2:

28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. 29 But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from people, but from God.

Do you consider the New Covenant not applicable to yourself since you are not Israel? Most Bible scholars do not go to that extreme.

And that very thing should give you an understanding of what the Sabbath truly is.

No one would discount that the manna that fell was a representation of Christ's flesh - His body given to us. Why were they given none on the Sabbath?

Because they were given enough the day before to last through the weekly Sabbath - Christ's body is given to us that now we feed on Him during our rest in Him because He is the Sabbath.

    We do not go out and do our own work because what He has done is sufficient for this day;

[Heb 4:10 ESV] for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.

Manna and the Sabbath go hand in hand. God was showing them something back then through it, we should learn from them.

The new covenant is not the old covenant repackaged and the body of Christ includes Jews and Gentiles, slave and free. (1 Corinthians 12:13) Do you believe that "children of Israel" in Exodus 31:16-17 includes Gentiles? The new covenant is of the Spirit and not the letter of the law. (2 Corinthians 3:6-9)

Deut 5 is not "chiseling new stone" - it is 40 years after Sinai and Moses reminded them "4 The Lord spoke with you face to face at the mountain from the midst of the fire, 5 while I was standing between the Lord and you at that time, to declare to you the word of the Lord; for you were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up on the mountain." - instead of "forget those words".

    Deut 4
10 Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when the Lord said to me, ‘Assemble the people to Me, that I may have them hear My words so that they may learn to fear Me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.’ 11 You came forward and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire to the heart of the heavens: darkness, cloud, and thick gloom. 12 Then the Lord spoke to you from the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of words, but you saw no form—there was only a voice. 13 So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, that is, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone. 14 The Lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, so that you would perform them in the land where you are going over to take possession of it.

Instead of "forget those words - I will give you an updated version instead"

Nowhere in the NT is the command repeated "do not take God's name in vain" but Bible scholars in almost all Christian denominations know it is STILL a sin to take God's name in vain. Because that set of TEN having as "the first commandment with a promise" - Honor your father and mother - is still in effect Eph 6:1-2

1 Cor 7:19 "what matters is Keeping the Commandments of God" where one of them is "do not covet" Romans 7.

The "New Covenant" is exactly what the Bible says it is in Jer 31:31-34 -- which is "unchanged" in Heb 8:6-12

31 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers on the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. 33 “For this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord: “I will put My law within them and write it on their heart; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 They will not teach again, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their wrongdoing, and their sin I will no longer remember.”

The same moral law of God known to Jeremiah and his readers in Jer 31 - is what we see in Heb 8:6-12 in that same verbatim covenant for NT saints.

    The point remains.

    This was already answered --

    1. Rev 21 says that it is just the city that needs no light because God is the Light for it.
    2. God Himself says "from Sabbath to Sabbath" AND from "new moon to new moon" in Is 66:23. speaking of the New Earth and the fact that for all eternity after the cross "ALL MANKIND" will come before God to worship "from Sabbath to Sabbath" - God knows that the city in Rev 21:23 needs no other light than God. Yet God also knows that the planet will have days and months etc. New Moon cycles require both the Sun and the Earth.

Two distinct cycles - monthly and from Sabbath-to-Sabbath for mankind to come before God and worship in the New Earth, and two creation events - one in Gen 1-2:3 and the other in Rev 21:1-2

There is no place where "From Sabbath to Sabbath" means "daily" and if we munge the text so that "new moon to new moon" means "daily" and "From Sabbath to Sabbath" means daily -- then it becomes "daily and daily shall all mankind come before Me to worship" which is not logical, it destroys the meaning of the text entirely.

What is more there is no text in all of scripture where "from Sabbath to Sabbath" means -- "daily". No not one.

    This is irrefutable.

    context matters.

    1. Heb 7 and 8 say that Christ is our priest... turns out... Christ is in heaven, and will be in the New Earth.
    2. The Sabbath was given in Eden as Bible scholars in almost all Christian denominations admit - which means it is observed "as given" without an earthly priest or sacrifice - as it will continue to be for all eternity after the cross in the New Earth.

Is it your claim that it is only a sin for a Jew to take God's name in vain - but not a sin for anyone else - since that commandment is not repeated in the NT?

No wonder Bible scholars in almost all denominations admit that the TEN were given to mankind in Eden and still apply to all mankind.

Gen 26:5 Abraham kept the commandments of God.

The Sabbath is still a requirement for the following reasons.

From the beginning God created the Sabbath. It was meant to be a blessing and meant to be eternal.

God created the earth in six days and rested on the seventh day Genesis 2:2,3 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

Which is the same language as in the 4th commandment found in Exodus 20:8-11 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Now written in our heart in the New Covenant along with the other God's laws. Jeremiah 31:31-33

God's commandments are eternal, meaning they cannot be broken. God never separated the only commandment that started with Remember from the other nine commandments and all the commandments are repeated in the New Testament.

The Law of God in the New Testament.
    1. "You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve" (Matthew 4:10).
    2. "Little children, keep yourselves from idols" (1 John 5:21). "Since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising" (Acts 17:29).
    3. "That the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed" (1 Timothy 6:1).
    4. "He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: 'And God rested on the seventh day from all His works.' There remains therefore a rest ["keeping of a sabbath," margin] for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His" (Hebrews 4:4, 9, 10).
    5. "Honor your father and your mother" (Matthew 19:19).
    6. "You shall not murder" (Romans 13:9).
    7. "You shall not commit adultery" (Matthew 19:18).
    8. "You shall not steal" (Romans 13:9).
    9. "You shall not bear false witness" (Romans 13:9).
    10. "You shall not covet" (Romans 7:7).

Jesus did not cancel the Sabbath at the cross.

Jesus warned about the time of tribulation which has not happened yet and said "And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath." Wouldn't make sense if God's Sabbath is obsolete as some like to say.

Jesus also said Mathew 5:17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

The heavens and earth are still here so none of God's laws are obsolete or cancelled including the Sabbath commandment found in Exodus 20:8-11. If so, Jesus would have said something.

If the Sabbath was cancelled we would not be worshipping God on the New Earth

Isaiah 66: 23 And it shall come to pass
That from one New Moon to another,
And from one Sabbath to another,
All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord.

So what does Colossians 2 mean? You have to read the whole passage to understand the context.

11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

Paul is referring to the ceremonial laws "having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us" this is not referring to God's commandments and even addresses it later by saying 1 Corinthians 7:19 Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters.

"having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us"
Most scholars recognize this does not mean God's moral laws.
    Just one quote
This 'handwriting of ordinances' our Lord did blot out, take away, and nail to His cross. (Colossians 2: 14.) But the moral law contained in the Ten Commandments, and enforced by the prophets, He did not take away.... The moral law stands on an entirely different foundation from the ceremonial or ritual law. ...Every part of this law must remain in force upon all mankind and in all ages.
—JOHN WESLEY, Sermons on Several Occasions, 2-Vol. Edition, Vol. I, pages 221, 222.

Paul is not referring to God's 4th commandment and the Sabbath commandment is not a shadow it points back to creation Genesis 2:3 and continues forever on the New Earth Isaiah 66:23

God stored His Sabbath commandment along with the other nine in the most holy of holy in the Sanctuary. The sanctuary is very symbolic and everything needed for salvation is in the sanctuary. Prayers, sharing the Gospel, daily Word of God and God's commandments.

    Psalms 77:13 Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary;
Who is so great a God as our God?

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

God's way is in the sanctuary and to get to God we go through Jesus, so Jesus is in the sanctuary too, along with God's eternal laws stored in the most holy of holy including the commandment God asked us to REMEMBER his holy Sabbath day.

    God bless

More of the same rhetoric and SDA propaganda. Taking God’s name in vain is already covered under blaspheming God’s name in 1 Timothy 6:1 and James 2:7. Your continued problem is you mix the old and new covenants together and whenever the word “commandments” is mentioned, you automatically assume it’s the 10 commandments from the law of Moses. You need to rightly divide the word of truth instead of mixing up covenants from different dispensations.

Can you prove from scripture that God gave Abraham the 10 commandments before He gave them too Moses? *Now if every man from Adam to Moses kept the sabbath, why is no one before Moses ever being told to keep the sabbath? *Why are there no examples of anyone keeping the sabbath before Moses? *Why were the Patriarchs never instructed about the sabbath, but were instructed regarding: offerings: Genesis 4:3-4, Altars Genesis 8:20, Priests: Genesis 14:18, Tithes: Genesis 14:20, Circumcision: Genesis 17:10. Marriage: Genesis 2:24, and Genesis 34:9. There are your commands in Genesis. *Why would God leave out the sabbath command in Genesis if it was for everyone to keep before Moses?

It is changed. This is why Peter preached the Gospel to the Jews and over 2,000 were saved; this is why we gentiles were grafted into the tree of Israel and this is the meaning of Galatians 3:27-29:
for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Israel broke the covenant and of course they would because no one can keep the LAW, but Christ Jesus which He did while He walked this earth...for fulfillment of the commands.
    Colossians 2:13-14:
3 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.
No one is under obligation to keep the Sabbath...
    Colossians 2:16-17:
16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.
We, however, are to continue to recognize a day of worship...
    Hebrews 10:24:
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

    My road to Sabbath Keeping

Premise 1 - What God has Decreed, man has no competence to revise.
Premise 2 - Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath.
Premise 3 - Jesus Christ is a Person, Sacred and Potent, worthy of our respect and adoration.

    Works of man and state
Edit of Constantine (AD 321) - Day of worhip is Sol Invictus was set on Sunday.
“All judges and city people and the craftsmen shall rest upon the venerable day of the sun. Country people, however, may freely attend to the cultivation of the fields, because it frequently happens that no other days are better adapted for planting the grain in the furrows or the vines in trenches. So that the advantage given by heavenly providence may not for the occasion of a short time perish.”
    >>Codex Justinian 3.12.2: Imperator Constantinus; Translation from Ayer, 284-285

Council of Nicaea (AD 325) - Easter should be observed on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox (March 21). Not as per passover (16th of Nisan)
    >> britanica.com keyword Easter

Council of Laodicea (AD 364) - Shifted worship from saturday to sunday to avoid being too jewish.
Canon 29 Christians must not judaize by resting on the Sabbath, but must work on that day, rather honouring the Lord's Day; and, if they can, resting then as Christians. But if any shall be found to be judaizers, let them be anathema from Christ.

Edict of Thessalonica (AD 380) - Nicean Christianity is the state religion.
Theodosius, born into the faith but only recently baptised after serious illness, issued the Edict of Thessalonica threatening both divine punishment and imperial retribution for those who rejected the Nicene creed.
    >>The Edict of Thessalonica | History Today

Natalis Invicti (December 25) - "has a strong claim on the responsibility for our December date"
    >>catholic.org keyword Christmas).

Birth of Jesus - Spring time
"...writings still mentions springtime as the proper birth date, some historians have speculated that his writings were later doctored to reflect the new Dec. 25 date with the caveat that the one reference to spring somehow got past the censors."
    >>keywords Jonathan Cahn, Hippolytus

Conclusion - Lord's Day as Sunday is a work of man and it should not have primacy over the decree of God. Sabbath is a Gift so God and man may commune through our Lord Jesus Christ, the Word and our Advocate. Regifting something that was given to you by a Person is insulting.

Here is wisdom from God Himself, through His servant Timothy, one of His 144 000 mouthpieces:

"If one who loves The Lord dedicates a certain day to The Lord, yet is ignorant regarding the Fourth Commandment, or has been led astray by false teaching in the churches of men, then to The Lord the day is indeed dedicated. For this is acceptable and well-pleasing to The Lord, because of the intent of their heart; to them it will be accounted as righteousness.
Yet if another who is not ignorant of the truth, and was not led astray by the churches of men, comes forward and says, “I also dedicate this certain day to The Lord,” and it is the correct day, the seventh (Saturday), according to the Fourth Commandment, but does so as a mere outward display to gain honor for themselves, elevating themselves above others, judging those they perceive as less worthy because of their error, to them it shall be accounted as shame. For though they kept the Sabbath outwardly, they did not keep it inwardly, nor to The Lord was it truly dedicated, having not kept the Sabbath at all.
Yet the one who remains humble and sincere, though they are in error, will in time see the Truth, and keep the Seventh Day holy as it is written. For they had already kept it in their heart. For it is far easier to move someone whose heart is in the right place to the correct day, than to move someone with a wrong heart to a place that is right, if they feel they already abide there.

Yet remember this: All who have been awakened to the Truth must now walk in it...

For thus says The Lord: Beloved, walk uprightly in Me, in My very footsteps. Abide in My doctrine, according to the faith and knowledge you have received in Me. Progress toward perfection, with all trust. Keep The Commandments, as you testify to the Truth by your example. Yet no more walk in the ways of this world, nor in the doctrines and traditions of the churches, for they are corrupt; obey not the commandments of men.

Beloved, seek and you shall surely find,
For all you need is written for your
Edification in the Scriptures of Truth...

And behold, even by these many Letters,
Which are of the same, have I set
    All these crooked paths straight,
    Says The Lord."

Salvation came first to the jews, then the gentiles. Outwardly many jews are keeping the sabbath throughout the generations, yet the intent of the heart is precious to the Lord indeed. As it is written elsewhere...

    "On the Sabbath,
    Let no unclean thing come from your mouth;
Let only praise and beauty come forth...

Let My grace be your covering,
    Let gentleness and humility
    Be your companion...

And soon you will wear a crown of glory
Atop your head, says The Lord YahuShua."

    Yet remember this also..

"Why do you depart from the Sabbath at sundown
And return to the ways of the world,
Welcoming in again that which you shut
The door to on the Sabbath?...

Rather treat everyday as the Sabbath,
    And you will do well...

    Says The Lord YahuShua."

Amen! Those who keep the sabbath truly understands the plan of the ages declared by the Lord, our God and Savior:

"In the sixth day, the leaven of sin entered the Garden; and on the seventh, God rested, and blessed the seventh day and sanctified it. Thus here is wisdom: Six days, creation; the seventh, rest, holy. Six days since Adam; the seventh, rest, holy. Six days shall you labor; the seventh, rest, holy. Six days shall you feast; the seventh, rest, holy."

Do you long for the rest? From the old order of things? The new day, the seventh, even one thousand years? Then keep the sabbath, keep all the Law! Grace first, works after, repentance.. For the reward is coming:

And behold, the Day is coming quickly
When The Rightful King shall rule...

And His Kingdom shall be a Sabbath,
    Even one thousand years;
    His reign, forever and ever!...

For The Lord has spoken, and so shall it be:

    On Earth as in Heaven."

Says the Lord, YAHUSHUA-YAHUWAH is His Name!

Sorry, the Sabbath simply does not apply anymore (Colossians 2:14-17) (Romans 14:5) (Acts of the Apostles 13:39) (Acts of the Apostles 15:1) (Acts of the Apostles 15:5) (Acts of the Apostles 15:24). Hebrews 7:12 says the Law has changed, and you will not find any Sabbath command given to us in the New Testament that says, “Thou shalt keep the Sabbath” by the Lord Jesus Christ, and by His apostles. You will also not find anywhere in the New Testament the sin of Sabbath breaking listed among the other sins that were given to us by Jesus, the apostle Paul, and the apostle John.

I never counted them but from your post I see and will assume there are 613 "Old laws". They're all pretty specific. Specific to the point where they can be numbered and categorized in the popular way that most use to support the distinction between the new and old covenant. Can we get a list of the new covenant laws--i.e. what does Jesus mean when he says "obey God"? There were 613 old ones, how many new ones? Can anyone provide such a list of the commands that are supported by Jesus and his followers in the Bible? Personally, I don't buy into the idea of separating the old laws into categories. Seems to me to be a way to sift out the more outrageous ones. So I'm not buying into the idea that the "moral" laws automatically carry over. I know Jesus spoke to a few of them, but not so sure that all have been covered under the new covenant. So can anyone provide or point me to the list of new covenant laws?

Keeping the sabbath was one of the ten commandments. Are there any more from the ten commandments that don't carry over to the new covenant?
