There’s an interesting phenomenon about Russian people on YouTube etc in the last few years. A kind of joyous optimism that is antithesis of the country’s grim history. Numerous flash mob public singing of traditional folk songs and the national anthem.

Rather than being embarrassing or cringeworthy as in some other countries, the public crowds love it and join in the singing.

This flowed into the recent FIFA World Cup which the Italian boss of FIFA praised as the best organised and friendliest.

It also reflects the massive revival of traditional Russian Christianity and family and traditional values.

Research indicates that during the Putin era corruption in Russia has steadily reduced and quality of life measures including average income, life expectancy, infant health, education etc all steadily improving. A global survey of life satisfaction last year had Russia at its highest relative standing ever.

If this news seems incredulous then perhaps you’ve been reading only the mainstream media/propaganda?

Go broader - start with the videos of public singing, of baptisms, of church choirs.

Eh. Glad to hear the Russians might be doing a little better these days, but it's nothing to beat the flash mob for Easter at City Mall in Beirut a few years back. They sang a Good Friday hymn in Arabic and Greek (Al Masih qam = Christ is risen), which is better than any national anthem.

Now that testifies as to traditional Christianity's place among the people, not an anthem that makes only one mention of God. (Одна ты на свете! Одна ты такая – Хранимая Богом родная земля!)

A revival of Christianity? Not unless you consider one of the lowest rates of church attendance in all of Europe (and one of the highest rates of abortion), a revival of Christianity.

Russian family and traditional values seem to be little more than xenophobia, homophobia, and submission to patriarchal authoritarian figures. Which makes all those warm, gushing Russian patriotic sentiments about as charming as a fresh breath of halitosis.

This is incredible.

Just imagine what Trump could do in 15 years.

Abolish the term limit on Presidents now. Russia is showing us the way to greatness.

They are. I meant the crowd joining in seemed staged.

Do you mean to say that there are NOT 20-30 random people at train stations at any time that know how to Riverdance? My faith in humanity is lost.

Evidence please. (Regarding the Italian President of FIFA saying Russia had produced best ever FIFA World Cup)
See the FIFA present give his press conference:
https://www.reuters.com/video/2018/07/13/infantino-thanks-russia-and-putin-for-be?videoId=444852536
Or read it here:
FIFA president Gianni Infantino says Russia 2018 has been best World Cup

Infantino said:
"The World Cup has changed the perception of the world towards Russia. I think everyone who has been here for some time ... has discovered a welcoming country." Infantino said he was also grateful to the volunteers, who were "the heart and the smile" of the World Cup.

A longer article about the 2018 World Cup and how Russia surprised everybody by an American Russian emigre who moved to the USA in his youth:ClubOrlov: An Immersive Experience

Popular English father-son duo of YouTubers (Thogden) about soccer/football who went to the World Cup against the advice of the British media. They were in trepidation to begin with because the British media had turned thousands of fans off going by the numerous articles about dodgy stadiums, poor transport, dangerous streets, lack of cleanliness, unfriendly locals and Russian football hooligans.
Their vlog of the tournament became increasingly pro-Russia as they realised not only was everything the media said, which had kept so many of their friends and compatriots home, was wrong - it was starkly wrong - Russians turned out to be super-friendly, there was nil violence, plenty of good camaraderie from the local football fans, the stadiums were superb, the transport better than in England and the streets clean. See them talk about it:

Evidence please. (Regarding the resurgence of Christianity in Russia since the end of Communism)

100s of stories about it on this website: Russian Faith

A short documentary about the destruction of the magnificent main cathedral in Moscow under the Communists and it being rebuilt in the year 2000:

A short story about Russian church growth: Astonishing Church growth in Russia sees record number training for priesthood

Number of church's growing by about a 1,000 per year now, similar number of new priests entering seminaries: Number of churches in Russia could double, hit pre-revolutionary number within 30 years

This gives history of Orthodox Church numbers in Russia - in 1917 at time of Communist Revolution there were 55,000 parishes, under Stalin all had been destroyed except a few hundred. 300,000 priests, nuns and lay people martyred for their faith. In 2017 back up to 36,000 parishes and in Moscow alone 62 new parishes established since 2011, accelerating as 24 of those in 2017 alone: Putin and the 'triumph of Christianity' in Russia

Evidence please. (On the resurrection of the Russian economy, infrastructure and education under Putin's tenure on power)

Hat tip to SoldieroftheKing for the infographic of the achievements of the Putin administration's first 15 years. The last 3 years Russia has been subjected to sanctions that would have crippled many nations who fall foul of the Western corporate empire's wrath, but it has thrived by being forced to resurrect national industries that had given away to globalism: farming in particular, and Russia has now become the world's number 1 wheat exporter.

Since 2014, the sanctions, the mayhem following the coup in Ukraine, the drain of fighting a war against jihadists in Syria all cost, but seems the Russian economy is holding up: Not ‘in Tatters’: Why the West Has Failed to Destroy Russia’s Economy

Despite the pressures on the economy, there is a cultural renaissance in the arts and architecture and the government is favouring education, maternity leave and childcare supports as it seeks to build for the future: Moscow's Post Industrial Renaissance: turning factories into creative hubs

It seems incredulous because for all I know you made it up.
I presumed too much knowledge beyond the corporate mainstream western media, sorry.

Dmitry Orlov grew up in Russia but his family migrated to the USA during the disastrous 1990s when Russia was imploding under the drunken corrupt rule of Yeltsin (who was a corrupt oligarch in his own right). This article of his about his homeland is really worth your while to read if you do want to be informed on this topic: The West Gets Russia Wrong Because the Media Are Peddling a Pack of Lies

I have no inclination to do your work for you.

That which is claimed without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

Good quote and fair enough, hence I've done some work providing evidence for you to consider in this post :)

24 American citizens travelled to Russia in September - this is from CCI - an organisation that has been around since the original Cold War to foster citizen-citizen US-Soviet/Russia interaction - beyond what the media/propaganda (that seems to foster a war mentality and thus Russophobia to justify the military-industrial complex) says.

Worth reading. The stories are warts and all. Russians aren't completely happy with their government but they universally approve of the improvements since the 1990s: The Most Extensive Investigation of Russia Yet - Center for Citizen Initiatives

The various stories from their 2018 trip. If you read them you see they have authenticity as travel diaries by average but open-minded Americans: Sept 2018 Trip Archives - Center for Citizen Initiatives

They have a webpage for news analysis: World News and Analysis Archives - Center for Citizen Initiatives

What's going on there is quite remarkable, a real revival as that country moves out from under the shadow of its communist, atheist past.

former
adjective

for·mer | \ ˈfȯr-mər \
Definition of former
(Entry 1 of 2)

1a : coming before in time She now appears like her former self.

b : of, relating to, or occurring in the past former correspondence restoring the theater to its former glory

2 : preceding in place or arrangement : foregoing the former part of the chapter

3 : first in order of two or more things cited or understood of the two given, the former spelling is more common of the two spellings, the former is more common

4 : having been previously : onetime a former athlete her former husband

I understand that by and large the left in America detests Russia for having aposstatized from the lack of faith they still adhere to, but former means former.
