Truly barbaric but not really surprising.

Two Britons, one Moroccan sentenced to death by court of Russian proxy in Ukraine

Just FYI, irregular soldiers in a war zone, foreign or not, are still subject to the Geneva Conventions regarding treatment of prisoners of war. Russia fancies itself a "Holy" nation but in reality they are nothing but an evil empire, and are probably using this case to try to leverage Britain to deal with the Donetsk regime, giving them ersatz legitimacy.

Did someone twist their arm to make them fight or did they volunteer? Many do the same under misguided ideals.

This is the tale of tales. There’s the one they spin for the populace, the spiel soldiers received, and the real game of thrones. And peons don’t get a seat at the table.

Causalities are meaningless at that level. Anyone who believes otherwise is ignorant of the rudiments of power and war.

All governments are barbaric. Some fashion themselves as peacekeeping benevolents. And they’re the biggest wolves of all.

It's about all they can do because they are losing a war that was supposed to be settled in a couple of weeks. Russia will go bankrupt fighting this losing war.

if they're acting contrary to international war treaties, it is indeed concerning. The odds are they aren't going to stop at Ukraine.

They'll stop at Ukraine if the Free World stops them there. More support for Ukraine.

1. It was a DPR court, not a Russian court.
2. The Geneva Convention allows for the trying of enemy prisoners for war crimes, provided that they are provided the same due process afforded to one's own troops.
3. The article omits a crucial point detail which would determine the legal status of these foreign fighters:

Were they wearing Ukrainian uniforms, or uniforms clearly identifying themselves as pro-Ukrainian combatants, at the time of their capture?

If not, then legally they are not prisoners of war, but spies, and consequently have far fewer protections under international law.

They were both officially conscripts of the Ukrainian army. As defenders on Ukrainian soil, they can hardly be spies.

please stop parroting second hand Russian propaganda.

These soldiers were apparently dual nationals so Ukrainian also. They were married to Ukrainian women and settled in Ukraine for some time. They were conscripted into the Ukrainian army, Marines, in uniform. There is no way this stands up to legal scrutiny internationally. But the local Donbas court is the one that tried them. Ironically Russian annexation of the Donbas would save their life from this kangaroo court as the Russians do not have the death penalty.

I suspect this is a propaganda tool of the Russians to make a point to the foreign fighters in Ukraines foreign legion of what they can expect if captured and also because they hope to use this to provoke prisoner exchanges at some point. They hope to raise the price of the exchange by putting the men in death row.
