Probably the Russian way of ensuring they get paid, since the Venezuelan Soberano wouldn't be worth much. Due to hyperinflation of 80,000 percent in 2018, you'd need 800 Soberanos in a year's time to get the same return for one now (if my understanding is correct).

The Russians aren't in the trade deal for love. Nor is the US in it's trade deals if it comes to that. We're not paying over $100 million AUD each for F-35 fighters, and about $10 million AUD each for Abrams M1 Tanks because the manufacturers love us.

The irony of the Venezuelan situation is that it was once one of Latin America's wealthiest countries. Now it's a basket case. It easily has the resources, especially oil, but it's been stupidly mismanaged.
