In the early 1980's, rightists distributed pamphlets calling on Salvadorans to "be a patriot, kill a priest." Every night, death squads linked to the army used to dump dozens of mutilated bodies on the streets.
sadly, there are still catholics persecuting Christians today as wellhttp://www.counterpunch.org/kozloff09172005.html
Its not just "over there and back then".
How about looking in our own back yard.
Hatred is hatred - and hatred for any Church (RC or otherwise) may have consequences for the persons we say we love anyway.
http://christianpost.com/article/20...ingly-persecuted-by-traditional-catholics.htmIn the indigenous region of Chiapas state, traditional Catholics a blend of Catholicism and native religious practices are more frequently being accused of various acts of religious intolerance against protestants, such as threats, intimidation, and robbery or expulsion from their communities, or death,
I'm sorry, this sounds like anti-RC propaganda straight from the 80sa blend of Catholicism and native religious practices
those were my thoughts too and I'm so far from catholic we couldn't even see each other, much less agree on doctrine...Well isn't this a fun thread.
When something pagan is renamed as something Christian, that is flat out wrong. There is no way around that, no matter how you try and justify it.
If you take a lion, give it a haircut and some colour and call it a tiger, is it still a lion? Bet you it is.
The reason why this was done is simple and sad. People who were in the Roman empire had grown up with worshipping various deities, many of which originated in Babylon. In order to placate the masses and make Christianity more palatable to them, there was an adoption of many of the pagan gods, rites and rituals into Christianity. It was largely a political move to make the empire more cohesive and a move by some who 'couldn't see the harm' in making compromises to get more people through the door.
God doesn't compromise.
Those are ridiculous claims and drawing parallels such as based ONLY in practice all religions share the same to some degree...as worship is common to human experience it proves that man has an innate inclination towards a diety that is God..

Greetings. Well there appears to be 2 groups with 2 different sets of doctrines/dogmas. The Roman Catholic Church aka "Catholicism" and Non-Roman Catholics "Protestatism".those were my thoughts too and I'm so far from catholic we couldn't even see each other, much less agree on doctrine...
sorry LLOJ... I think it's totally inappropriate to point fingers when no one can say that they have not "invented" anything (that is part of a denomination of any type)
why can't we just discuss issues and not groups of people?
For when outsiders hear the sayings of our God from our mouths they are astonished at their beauty and greatness. Then when they discover that our actions do not match our words, they turn from astonishment to blasphemy, saying that our faith is some kind of myth or error. For on the one hand, they hear from us that God has said: 'It is no great accomplishment for you to love those who love you; it is great if you love your enemies and those who hate you.' And when they hear these things, they are astonished by their extraordinary goodness. But when they see that we fail to love not only those who hate us, but even those who love us, they ridicule us and the name is blasphemed.
And some of us search the Scriptures to see if these things are so.because they're one of the few who openly say "we know the one and only way" though many protestants say the same thing behind closed doors.
It's not ridiculous, I mentioned these parallels to show that the Church shouldn't be attacked for having similarities between pagans when the Bible itself shares some connections to myths that originated before the Christianity and Judaism.

Why do you think there are so many threads on the Catholics on the GT board

Why so many Catholic/pope threads?
