  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dude! I'm almost 53. I got stories. Loads of 'em.
You bring the beer.
Back in 1969 while in the service, we were out drinking and I drank so much beer, rum, bourban that I actually drank myself sober!!!!No lie! But I also ran over one of my buddies with the car door when backing up

Get over the gates of hell prevailing?
You realize that is what is (typicaly) equated with an error in teaching, your imperial highness?
Nah, just they (mostly Protestants) need to get over things that their apparent "enemy" (Roman Catholic Church) did during the Reformation. That being said, the Protestants also need to take the accountability to persecutions of Roman Catholics in Protestant lands (England and Ireland anyone?) and not to forget overall ill will towards Catholics (Irish immigrants 1840s anyone?)

What's the old verse, adage or proverb?

"Take out the plank in your own eye so you can see the sliver in your brother's eye"? Something like that...

Or take the sliver out of thy own eye so you can better see the plank in thy brother's eyes?

How are the crusades an error? You do know that Islamic nations were expanding and taking nations by force some of which were Christian. The Crusades were called to protect pilgrims on their journey, protect remaining lands from Islamic threat and to try and claim back the nations they had lost. I don't see how it's an error when it was established out of defense.

Weren't many innocent Christians as well as many other innocent people killed during the crusades?
What about the Inquisition? Do you think that also was ok?

The inquisition would be an error and I don't see how it compares to the crusades?

As for innocent people dying in the crusades, it happened during WWI and WWII and yet everyone agrees with those wars, so why do the crusades get such bad rep? Now I know the 4th crusade attacked the orthodox, but they were sent to Constantinople by the Pope to protect the byzantines from the Muslims, but since the Byzantines treated the crusaders badly they attacked out of revenge and in that case I would fault the soldiers not the Church, since the Church had sent them to help unfortunately the soldiers did not keep that order and attacked they’re allies and all because they were not shown hospitality and respect.

Roman Catholicism is like any other Religion / Government. Roman Catholics, however, are people like you and me. People that deserve just as much respect as your fellow believers.
Yeah... I respect you.... But I don't respect your RC Church.

You know what they say, "Love the sinner, but hate the sin!"

i agree that it is not the people that most of us have a problem with - it is the system.
I do not think that the Lord ever intended to create a religion/government which is what the RCC is.
To be a Christian should be only about Christ, not about being a governmental entity.

Its not just "over there and back then".
How about looking in our own back yard.

Hatred is hatred - and hatred for any Church (RC or otherwise) may have consequences for the persons we say we love anyway.
