    The Wise become Fools

Rom 1:22,23 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

"The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.' They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good." Ps 14:1 By not acknowledging God, or replacing God with an idol results in a corruption of one's thinking such that one becomes foolish. Yet such a person will reckon themselves wise. "The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice." Pr 12:15 That is, such a person makes their own opinion, their own feelings, the standard of truth. "A fool has no delight in understanding, But in expressing his own heart." Pr 18:2 For to reject God is to reject his Word and replace Him with that which is foolish be it oneself or an idol.

Concerning idols Isaiah notes, "Half of the wood he burns in the fire; over it he prepares his meal, he roasts his meat and eats his fill. He also warms himself and says, 'Ah! I am warm; I see the fire.' From the rest he makes a god, his idol; he bows down to it and worships. He prays to it and says, 'Save me; you are my god.' They know nothing, they understand nothing; their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see, and their minds closed so they cannot understand." Is 44:16-18 and goes on to say, "He feeds on ashes, a deluded heart misleads him; he cannot save himself, or say, 'Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?'" Is 44:20

It seems, we humans prefer gods we can see with our physical eyes.
