    If you're a conservative, Santorum is not your guy. His extreme record includes (And this list is not even complete):

    • Voting to RAISE the debt ceiling five times;
    • Voting with Ted Kennedy on multiple occasions to support the Big Labor Unions agenda;
    • Supporting raising taxes on oil companies, which directly costs Americans more money out of their pockets at the gas pump;
    • Urging more federal involvement in housing with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac;
    • Voting to create a brand new, unfunded entitlement, Medicare Part D, the largest expansion of entitlement spending since President Lyndon Johnson - creating $16 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities;
    • Endorsing liberal Big Government RINOs like Arlen Specter over conservatives. Of course, Specter became a Democrat and worked hand-in-glove with President Obama to pass his radical agenda;
    • Voting for Sarbanes-Oxley, which imposed dramatic new job-killing accounting regulations on businesses;
    • Voting for gun control;
    • Voting to give Social Security benefits to illegal aliens, while voting against an additional 1,000 border patrol agents;
    • Voting to send hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood - the nation's largest provider of abortion – and to hand out hundreds of billions of dollars in foreign aid to enemies of Israel.
    • Actually saying, "I'm not a deficit hawk anymore, I had to spend the surplus."
    • He OPPOSED the right to work act and instead voted to give unions more control and hurt non-unionized workers.
    Rick Santorum is NOT a conservative. With the exception of talking like a social conservative, he's a bigger liberal than Romney. He might as well be Barack Santorum!

    Nice attack post. :wave: I've noticed though that most politicians have character flaws which can make them look really detestable.

    Here's where the presidential candidates stand on the scale of big-government to little-government, left-to-right

    Totalitarian big government --> Obama --> --> Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, Ron Paul --> libertarian small government.

    Whaddaya think?

    Concidering the numer of people who lost their investments or jobs due to deliberately shady accounting reporting I'm amazed that anyone opposes SOX. In fact, I've worked for two companies that were SOX compliant. At one, I was somewhat involved with the compliance effort and not only did it not kill jobs, but the more disciplined accounting helped the company make better decisions. It actually created some jobs so that we could guarantee the required separations (ie. the AP team can't approve spending).

    I agree Santorum is not a perfect candidate, but he's the only one even close that has stuck in the race so he's all we've got and we need to support him.

    Politics is like dating, if you're waiting for the perfect person to find you, you're very unlikely to get the perfect person. If you want the perfect candidate then you need to go online, find a candidate in your state or another state that has the perfect record and help them get elected. You can't sit on your ass for 4 years, then jump in to the political arena and start complaining there's no candidates you like. Get involved or you have only yourself to blame.

    Is it just me or is no one actually a conservative?

    Has the Republican party been so successful with marketing the brand name "conservative" that every single candidate they actually put forward would never be able to actually be one?

    It's the first time I think, that a political party was based upon a no true Scotsman fallacy. ;)

    Even a little conservative is better than a big liberal.

    I think it is a foregone conclusion, unless he decides against it, Ron Paul will run as an independant if he does not get the Republican Nod.

    Oh good luck my friend. The social conservatives will never admit that Santorum isn't a real conservative - he's the only candidate they have to ruthlessly enforce their moral beliefs on those who don't believe them.

    Certainly not based on the lack of substance in this thread, no.

    Sorry, but Santorum is not more "little government" conservative than Gingrich, at least not based on his past record. His record as a Senator is that he is a big government social conservative -- very similar to the George W. Bush mold. In fact, as senator Santorum voted with Bush about 99% of the time (as noted above, including on issues such as Medicare Part D). There is a reason that when he ran for reelection that he lost by 18%. I seriously don't believe Santorum is any less "big government" than Romney.

    “[I will] fight very strongly against Libertarian influence within the Republican Party and the Conservative movement. I don't think the Libertarians have it right when it comes to what the Constitution's all about. I don't think they have it right as to what our history is." — Rick Santorum

    "If you analyze it, I believe the very heart and soul of Conservatism is Libertarianism... The basis of Conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom, and this is a pretty general description also of what Libertarianism is." — Ronald Reagan

    Is the Republican Party suffering from an identity crisis?

    Sure, that might be true in a normal election year, but I have a strong feeling this time around will be different. If Ron Paul does run as an independent he will pull a much larger portion than any third party candidate has in the past. This election will hail back to some of the elections of the 1800's.

    You made my point. If he pulls a "larger portion" as you say, it won't come from Obama supporters. So essentially he'll be helping Obama get re-elected. Nice big fat ego.

    Not necessarily true this time around. He will be, and actually has been, pulling voters from both sides. Because there are a large number of people that are tired of both of the major parties.

    This will be a very interesting race, indeed.
