Remembering The 9/11 Attacks 17 Years Later
LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– People across the country will pause Tuesday and remember the victims of the 9-11 terror attacks.
The annual World Trade Center ceremony in New York will include a moment of silence to observe when the flights struck the towers.
It will also feature the reading of the names of victims of the 2001 and the 1993 attacks.
Defense Secretary James Mattis and Vice President Mike Pence will be at an event in Washington, DC honoring victims of the Pentagon attack.
President Donald Trump will be in Pennsylvania for a memorial for the Flight 93 victims.

Eastern Kentucky University
- 9/11 Memorial Service: 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 11 ,Keen Johnson Plaza. The Memorial Ceremony will include remembrances by University Officials and community leaders.
- Memorial Stair Climb and Ceremony: 6-11 p.m. at Keene Hall. The ceremony will feature a short 9/11 memorial service at the EKU Center for the Arts, followed by the Memorial Stair Climb at Keene Hall. The schedule: Registration from, 6:00-7:30 p.m., at the EKU Center for the Arts; 9/11 Memorial Ceremony, 7:45 p.m., at the EKU Center for the Arts, Stair Climb at Keene Hall, immediately following ceremony until 11 p.m.
Honor Guard For Lexington Police And Fire Departments
- 9/11 Ceremony: Event to commemorate the fallen members of the police and fire departments in NYC. The event will begin at 9 a.m. in Phoenix Park, located in downtown Lexington.
A moment of silence will be observed to correspond with the attacks, beginning at 8:46 a.m. (Eastern Daylight Time), the time the first plane struck the North tower of the World Trade Center.
