Retired 'Navy SEAL' praising Trump on Fox News was a fake

Fox News ran a story on Oct. 8 about a decorated Vietnam War Navy SEAL and glass artist who created an enormous presidential glass seal he hoped to give to President Donald Trump.

On Thursday, 11 days later, the network retracted the story after being told the Trump supporter never served in Vietnam at all, much less earned commendations for his service.

So now we have three competing threads saying essentially the same thing. Someone more skeptical than I might conclude that the folks who still dream of overturning the last election are awfully desperate for some new way to keep the political pot stirred.

It's really sad how many middle aged and senior men lie about this.
It's like they went through life feeling they missed their purpose when in reality they are impressive and important just as they are.

Hi pat,

I don't know the answer to your question, but there isn't any inference in this thread, so far, that he was. You guys are just gun shy.

It is a news story that a large news agency like Fox news could be so bamboozled, but this guy admits of his own volition that he's been doing it for years and so likely had a lot of people that may have been supporting his claim that caused Fox news to believe the claim without question. It would be interesting to know 'how' Fox news reporters were led to this story. Who was it that one day got the ear of some Fox reporter that said, "Hey, you should do a story on this guy that's a retired and decorated Navy Seal that's made a wonderful glass seal honoring the president"? Was it the artist himself that called up Fox news and asked to have the story done, or someone else? I imagine that Fox news is looking into that.

Credible news agencies have their credibility brought into serious question when such stories come out. This isn't the first time that such a thing has happened, but for a news agency, it can put a serious dent in their credibility and so I imagine they'd really like to know how they came to cover this piece.

It's like they went through life feeling they missed their purpose when in reality they are impressive and important just as they are.

You'd be surprised at how many people begin believing fictionalized stories that they have told. I was the president of our union and routinely told testimony regarding events at our work place. As the years would pass, those who had given testimony began changing the sworn to facts and after a few years what they then said occurred was completely different.

I contend that your claim isn't the truth. As the story says itself, it was a Navy Seal who has made it his life's mission to check such things out as people claiming to have given in service to their country and are just outright lying This Navy Seal heard the story and began to check it out and it all unraveled. I don't think the 'oh, it only happens when someone well known is involved' is the reason that this particular story came to light. This appears to be the pride of the Navy Seals policing stories that people claim.

Yes, if this man was claiming to be some famous tax accountant who had made this glass seal, it likely would have never been uncovered by other accountants that he wasn't one of them. But this is a case of a man who made up a claim that went to national news and once it went to national news this Navy Seal who wants to protect the reputation of the Navy Seals checked it out. According to the news account, it's what he does.

uhmmm...the point was a news article about a guy lying about something. Usually people just read the OP to find out what a thread is about.
