On normal posts we can hit a number of icons for "like," "agree," "funny," etc.

It would be nice to have something similar in PM conversations.

That way we could hit an icon to show we read the post.
As it is, unless someone actually makes a response, we have no way of knowing if it has been read or not.

I've used icons in conversations. It only takes a second longer to pull up the icons in the menu.

I have only ever wanted the "like" button in PM's, but yeah it would be useful!

I can do that in my own post, but I am asking for something on my post that says the other participant(s) have read it.

Or vice versa.

I totally agree with this. Sometimes I don't know what to say in response to a PM message but I don't want to look like I'm ignoring it. Sometimes I also just like one so much that I'd like to give it a rating!

Wow. 10 agrees on my op. :)

I hope someone higher up on the food chain takes notice.....

Well; I'm not very far up the food chain (almost can see the tabletop; but do get a few choice crumbs; once in a while:p) but will give my 2 Penney's; for what ever that's worth:

1--the conversations are meant for a small audience; so there is no need for the "ratings" as they are manly to tell other members in a thread; that you like or have other opinions about the posts from a particular member.

2--so If your in a PM to someone and you want to tell them you like what they sent you; you can posts a "" from the smilies; you don't have to comment.

3--and as far as knowing if somebody has read your PM to them; this is a privacy issue; if someone PM's you about something and you do not care to respond; then being able to read the PM without the sender knowing is a good thing.

Let's say someone is trolling you or looking for an argument; you can just read it; not respond back; and the sender doesn't know if you have or not; even read it. Some trolls or argumentative members; all they would need to know is that you read it to keep at sending PMs.

Not looking for "ratings" like on the main forum. But I have a bible study with about 6 or 7 others and would like to know who read the material and who did not yet. (whether they wanted to reply or not)

What you described here are the ratings. The chances of getting something like a notification of a PM having been read; are not very good.

Best ask your members to RSVP you; so to speak. When staff are sent a notification sometimes they are requested to send a "read" back; meaning they read it.
You could tell them it means "Read Scripture, Verses, or Passages":)
