...on the largely unfinished and partly falling down Trumpwall.

The stimulus package was unbelievably popular – 70% support – and thus the GOP was left to hang it on “immigrants” to demonize the package and people. Ted Cruz said benefits will go to “illegal immigrants.” He lied. But the clip will get shown and some people will be upset that this fantastic program is “going to illegals.” But that’s all the GOP has right now.

So with the infrastructure bill, Republicans see themselves having to swallow another popular package. What to do? Hang it on immigration, and immigrants, apparently. Kevin McCarthy wants you to know that every dollar spent on repaving the highway in town or building a new terminal at the airport is a dollar that could have been spent making “the wall” higher.

Is there any politician who actually uses tax dollars, in a beneficial way for america.

Any one that favors putting taxes into streets, bridges, and other infrastructure Americans use and need.

Building useless walls, not so much.

I wonder if the Biden admin wishes there was more to that useless wall built......then maybe they wouldn't have 4200 (and climbing) illegal alien minors in cages.......and FEMA could stay home......

I know very little about this topic, but God did lead me this video yesterday. I hope this provides food for thought in this discussion. Please ignore the politics, all parties need to give their side of the debate.

Streets are needed, true but in many ways the streets get the crumbs left over. And usually use, low quality material that will last long enough to get the politician votes for the up and coming election. Then after a year or two they began to deteriorate and basically we are left with a road filled with potholes etc..

He just happened to be president during the computer boom.

Come on, lol. It was more than that, wasn't it? Didn't he run on a platform to balance the budget? Surely, he actually tried.

Balance the budget, that is standard political speak? everyone wants a balanced budget. Maybe they will actually try, if their money printing machine ever breaks

Did, under Trump, who wanted to spend it all on a useless wall. Biden thinks it's better spent on streets and highways, among other infrastructure.

As you learned, Clinton did it. Without a recession. Sometimes, knowing what one is doing, is a good thing.

It is my understanding he borrowed money on the short term market to make it look like it, probably from China so he could continue the democratic agenda to bankrupt America and turn it over to China.

That would mean the budget was not balanced. It works like your own finances. If you borrow more money, the deficit rises, not falls. Clinton actually managed to pay down a small part of the debt.

Though I do think he managed to do it by borrowing from the social security trust fund. Since that was internal debt, it doesn't count for purposes of the deficit. Same trick a lot of states pulled with their pension funds.

Maybe, but Congress has been doing that forever. (checking)

The Clinton years showed the effects of a large tax increase that Clinton pushed through in his first year, and that Republicans incorrectly claim is the “largest tax increase in history.” It fell almost exclusively on upper-income taxpayers. Clinton’s fiscal 1994 budget also contained some spending restraints. An equally if not more powerful influence was the booming economy and huge gains in the stock markets, the so-called dot-com bubble, which brought in hundreds of millions in unanticipated tax revenue from taxes on capital gains and rising salaries.

Clinton’s large budget surpluses also owe much to the Social Security tax on payrolls. Social Security taxes now bring in more than the cost of current benefits, and the “Social Security surplus” makes the total deficit or surplus figures look better than they would if Social Security wasn’t counted. But even if we remove Social Security from the equation, there was a surplus of $1.9 billion in fiscal 1999 and $86.4 billion in fiscal 2000. So any way you count it, the federal budget was balanced and the deficit was erased, if only for a while.
