Well, let's look at that belief....

AUSTIN — Illegal immigrants have boosted the state's economy by $17.7 billion and haven't been a drain on state government — but they did cost local governments $929 million in 2005, the Comptroller's Office reported Thursday.

The report by Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn is the first comprehensive effort by the state government to calculate the benefits and costs of having 1.4 million to 1.6 million illegal immigrants in Texas.

You started us out by saying something about Social Security benefits, which are a federal, not state, program. Then you tried to bolster your contention by citing something that relates to the state government of Texas. Again not taking any account of the many federal welfare programs that these people can qualify for.

Overall, the survey found that illegal immigrants pay more in taxes than they receive in state services.

Yes. Of course illegal workers pay more in federal taxes than they will ever get back. But now you also see that states make a substantial profit on having them here.

Again not taking any account of the many federal welfare programs that these people can qualify for.

Let's check on that conversation...
In #58:

The Barbarian said:
Actually, it's the other way around. Illegal immigrant workers pay taxes, Social Security, and so on, but rarely receive any benefits.

Perhaps not as far as Social Security benefits are concerned.

However, they receive from a host of other welfare programs many times more money, goods, and services than the total of their contributions in taxes. Many times more.

As you now realize it's not just the federal government that makes money on them:

I mean no offense to you, but if you are going to cite SNOPES.

As you know it's one of the more reliable fact-checkers. Mostly because they cite the evidence on which they check claims. As you probably know, less scrupulous sites do not.

IMHO I am NOT the one drinking the Koolaide.

That's a testable claim...

The initial claim was that fact-checking stopped when Biden was inaugurated. As you now see, that was false; Snopes has repeatedly fact-checked Biden and Biden administration claims. I showed you a number of them. But it's not just Snopes. Pretty much every reliable fact-checker has checked the new administration before and after he became president. Would you like to see some more?

Trump racially depolarized America, appealing to millions of working class Democrats who don't support defunding police in their crime ridden neighborhoods:

Trump's problem was that one of those democrats who don't support defunding police was running against him. And now, that working-class democrat is cleaning up another crime-ridden neighborhood:

Trump racially depolarized America,

Well let's take a look at that:

The survey, conducted on May 29 and 30, found that 52 percent of Americans answered yes when asked whether they “think that President Trump is a racist.” Only 37 percent said no. Just 33 percent said the president should continue “posting messages on Twitter.” Fifty-four percent said no to the question.

A similar majority of Americans said they disapprove of Trump’s handling of race relations — among them, 41 percent of the total agreed “strongly” and 12 percent agreed “somewhat.”

New Yahoo News/YouGov poll: Most Americans say Trump is a 'racist' and want him to stop tweeting

Most Americans don't agree with you. And the facts...

White nationalist hate groups have grown 55% in Trump era, report finds

White supremacists present the gravest terror threat to the United States, according to a draft report from the Department of Homeland Security.

Two later draft versions of the same document — all of which were reviewed by POLITICO — describe the threat from white supremacists in slightly different language. But all three drafts describe the threat from white supremacists as the deadliest domestic terror threat facing the U.S., listed above the immediate danger from foreign terrorist groups.

Dems seek to "cancel" Trump's legacy of racial depolarization in America

They want America divided

They will demonize to divide

I see the denial, but notice the majority of Americans aren't buying it. Trump's election led to a great rise in activity by white nationalists to the point that his own FBI director admitted white nationalist violence has become the greatest terrorist danger in the U.S.

That's Trump's legacy. It's why Americans recognize that he's racially divided us.

Dems seek to "cancel" Trump's legacy of racial depolarization in America

If you call a large increase in violence by white nationalists "racial depolarization" then we've found the problem.

Yeah, that’s what they say, conveniently forgetting that it was largely the christian conservative right that, for decades, drove the culture war, with its assorted boycotts and censorship.

Yes, the plan was first covertly discussed, but in 1992, Patrick Buchanan overtly declared cultural war on liberal and moderate Americans:
Buchanan Declares a Culture War

Approaching the end of his speech, Buchanan states that the country is engaged in a culture war. While the notion of a culture war is not strictly defined, Buchanan uses it to describe bitter, high-stakes political contests between the right, or conservatives, and the left, or liberals.

https://www.coursehero.com/lit/Pat-Buchanans-Culture-War-Speech/plot-summary/

Alarmed at the fact that white middle-class Christian Americans were becoming increasingly open to people of other races and religions, and were even becoming more accepting of homosexuals, Buchanan declares war on such liberal notions.

From then on, it was out in the open.

In fact, a recent NPR analysis found that vaccine hubs, particularly ones in Louisiana, Texas and Alabama, were largely missing from predominantly Black and Hispanic communities, while few whiter neighborhoods were without one. And in a national study conducted in conjunction with the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, Dickson found that Black Americans in nearly two dozen urban counties in and around Atlanta, New Orleans and Dallas, among a host of other cities, faced longer driving distances to vaccine centers than white Americans.
The Reason Black Americans Are Getting Vaccinated At A Much Slower Rate Is Not Because They’re Reluctant

We shouldn't be surprised, but it's still a shock to see such blatant cases.

Faced with Biden's popular Covid law, Republicans stick to the culture war
No Republicans on Capitol Hill supported the Biden-backed Covid stimulus package, but the GOP also did relatively little to marshal public opposition to the bill beyond calling it a "liberal wish list." That's not surprising given how popular the bill is, with 61% of adults saying they back it in the latest CNN poll.
Republican senators launched perfunctory critiques against many of Biden's appointees and first executive orders, while others have begun to focus on the influx of migrants at the border. But so far the GOP has made no sustained argument against the administration.
Instead of taking on Biden directly, Republicans and their conservative-media allies have retreated to the latest culture-war skirmishes, focusing as much on lambasting a "cancel culture" as they are on attacking actual administration policies.

Doesn't seem like a very smart move. But one does what one can with what there is to use, I suppose.

Yes, that's about it. One person declared a culture war, it was out in the open, and hardly anyone paid attention to him.

Yes, that's about it. One person declared a culture war, it was out in the open, and hardly anyone paid attention to him.

It got huge coverage. It was at the RNC presidential convention. He was speaking for George H.W. Bush. It put Americans on notice that if you weren't a straight white Christian, the Republican party wasn't for you.

The timing was terrible; mainstream America was becoming more tolerant at that point. And Buchanan's "good people" were becoming a smaller portion of the American electorate. Granted, Buchanan and his fellows were partly a reaction to that ongoing change. But instead of finding a way to adjust conservative thinking to that reality, they chose to declare war on it.

And on most of us.
