South Africa has already taken a massive dip in reported Omicron cases, and according to CBS News, business there is booming again.

In other words, the COVID-19 variant has dipped as sharply as it surfaced in the nation where it is believed to have begun, just before December.

...

It will be real interesting to see how the U.S., and particularly the mainstream media, will react to this news. It would, after all, be quite an adjustment from the 24/7 coverage and fear-mongering that the media continues to push today.

The reason being that those who have survived previous variants are all that's left.
About 80% currently test positive for past exposure.
The total death rate is not well documented.

If you're going to play the "hospitals are short-staffed" card, then please also tell us how many of your staff who worked through the crisis in 2020 and early 2021 were fired or had to quit because they would not be forced to take the vaccination.

Yes, but my "freedom" is all that matters (trust the sarcasm is obvious).

If you hold your freedoms so cheaply, then be assured some tin-pot dictator will be more than happy to take them from you.

I only knew a few who pushed back on getting the vaccine and of those, all of them were for medical reasons such as cancer and under going some kind of therapy that compromised their immune system. My experience is that most of the folks I work with are vets and pretty much follow orders still.

Nationally, 70% of health care providers are vaccinated.

HCP were 14% more likely to be fully vaccinated if they worked in hospitals in the lowest percentile of COVID-19 admissions. They were also 10% more likely to be fully vaccinated in counties with the lowest cumulative cases of COVID-19.

COVID-19: 30% of healthcare workers in US hospitals not vaccinated

On the other hand, they were 32% less likely to be fully vaccinated in counties with lower community vaccine coverage.

The ones that got fired are part of the problem.

They are just as bad as the unvaccinated patients in the ICUs. Nurses refusing to get vaccinated just exacerbated the situation.

The point, and I suspect you know this, is that anti-vaxxers, with the facts and science against them, are forced to use a wide range of tricks to try to argue their point. And one of the most common tricks is to try to argue as if personal freedom were the only consideration in what is clearly a multi-dimensional issue. Obviously, civic responsibility - concern for the welfare of others - is also a consideration.

But you have to sweep that under the carpet to make your "my freedom is all that matters" argument.

Wrong.

--They are just as bad as the unvaccinated patients in the ICUs.

Wrong again.

--Nurses refusing to get vaccinated just exacerbated the situation.

Ah, yes, remember back in 2020 when we were suppose to laud health care workers as heroes, and no doubt many or even most were (though that may be debatable for those doing TikTok dance routines)? Oh, but then those same people were suddenly pariahs when some power-mad rules makers decided to force everyone to get the increasingly unreliable jab.

But, hey, let's continue victim-blaming instead of blaming the people who caused the problem with their stupid rules.

First, I'm not anti-vax. That's a lie on your part.

Second, the "facts and science" are not against those who think it best for themselves to not take the jab. We know that natural immunity is many times better than vaxed immunity. We know that vaxed immunity lessens over time. And with omicron, we know that vaxes are essentially ineffective, though with omicron being so weak that's hardly a big deal. We know this bug has not been the doomsday killing machine we were initially sold it would be 2 years ago.

So, the one engaging in "common tricks" is you.

And, btw, being concerned about freedoms is a "civic responsibility", and is very much "concern for the welfare of others". Take a good, long look at Australia to see that.

This is a very poor argument and you are hiding a key fact: the people who have the most immunity are those who are both vaccinated and had a previous infection. So the truth is, of course, that the best immunity is experienced by vaccinated people who also got Covid.

Let us be clear: all arguments against vaccination are based on misinformation, distortion, and hiding key facts.

The science is crystal clear: get the jab.

This characterization as "increasingly unreliable" is misleading. It may be strictly true - it is indeed the case that the vaccines are much less effective at preventing infection against omicron. But the vaccines are still very effective at reducing hospitalizations and deaths. Even if they are less effective than they were against delta and alpha in this respect, so what.

They are still highly effective and there is no rational reason to not get the vaccine.

I was watching a show last night - 1883 and a quote from a character struck me:

"...There's no such thing as freedom, Elsa. Don't let anyone tell you there is. There's laws, there's rules, there's customs, responsibilities everywhere. The more people you cram together, the more rules there'll be. ..."

This is a very poor argument and you are hiding a key fact: the people who have the most immunity are those who are both vaccinated and had a previous infection.

Yeah, like half the NFL in the US this year? Many were "fully" vaccinated and some even had boosters. Many had previous infections last year as well. And it still spread like wildfire this year.

And yes, supposedly this lessens your chance at hospitalization and symptoms but so does having natural immunity and that's always been the case for the latter. We know the vaccines wane with time but the body produces memory cells, etc.

And lets not forget that for 99 percent of the population, the symptoms are mild requiring no hospitalization regardless of vaccine status. For those with compromised immune systems, of course getting a cold, flu or covid is something to take into account when deciding on getting a shot/vaccine, etc.

Yep, let's just say all our Constitutionally protected freedoms are not real, that's just what the totalitarians want.
