... and accuses 'left-wing' media of siding with Beijing:

'"On that note, major left-wing news media, even in this room, have teamed up with Chinese Communist Party narratives, and they are claiming that you are racist for making these claims about 'Chinese virus,'" she followed up. "Is it alarming that major media players, just to oppose you, are consistently siding with foreign state propaganda, Islamic radicals, and Latin gangs and cartels, and they work right here at the White House with direct access to you and your team?"

All the rest of this tempest in a teapot aside, the President is right about that.

China is doing everything it can to cast off the world's awareness that it was China that was responsible for this pandemic getting out of hand. Griping about "Chinese virus" is part of that country's list of claims intended to make it look like someone else is at fault for almost anything that could seem related to the outbreak.

I do not believe anyone is denying that the Chinese bear responsibility for letting this get out of hand, at least initially. Your argument appears to be an attempt to defend Mr. Trump's atrocious word choices by pointing to the Chinese culpability.

Both can, and likely are, true:

1. China did not handle things well, initially (lately, they have been doing a terrific job, at least in suppressing the outbreak there).

2. Donald exhibited dreadful judgement in his word choice - but what would we expect from him?

A tee-up by a Trump supporter in the press. Those usually are reserved for Democrats by their own sympathizers.

Yet the fly off the rails when anyone has kind words for Russia...

Why play down that fact?

Yet another feeble attempt to justify racism and xenophobia. Food associated with a specific country or culture is not racism; however, attempting to link a virus with a specific country or culture, when there is nothing uniquely Chinese about a virus, is more ridiculous stanning.

It appears that you Trump supporters are trying to justify what cannot be justified - Mr. Trump's outrageous and inflammatory language - because the Chinese played a role letting this get out of hand.

But that makes no sense at all. If the Chinese government merits criticism, by all means fire away. But this has nothing to do with the fact that Mr. Trump is being reckless and irresponsible in referring to the virus as 'Chinese'.

Yes its totally racist when you associate a nationality with food. Totally.

What about "as American as apple pie?"

Is it the "Chinese food" itself that is racist (as implied grammatically in the OP title), or calling it "Chinese food?"

;-)

I hope we don't start blaming China for the DISASTROUS response Trump has done.

You CAN blame China for crushing all relevant information and data; for stomping out leading early voice. ABsolutely you can stomp them for that.

But it is ludicrous to think that the tragectory the US is on has anything to do with china.

Yes the disease originated in China. But it's not a Chinese disease because Americans are dying from it too. So are a few Italians.

Doesn't sound like a Chinese disease to me!

Chinese food arrives from a cultural birth. It's a slow process from which a culture creates identity based on needs and available materials. They key is that it's CREATED by people.

A disease does not arise from a culture but from some kinda cross species infestation. It is not created by people. It is spread by people, in the same way that waiter in a restaurant brings you food.

Actually I do cringe whenever anyone says "American cheese" and I wish they would stop.

Why? You think it is racist? Which race would that mean - as there are many races represented among people calling themselves American? Or is there a different reason?

"American cheese" is nasty. Not American cheeses, which can be excellent. But that pre sliced orange rubber stuff is gross.

Yes the disease originated in China.
The sad part of all this is the focus on Trump. Whether a person loves him or hates him the real issue is being tragically overlooked and ignored.

It's more than just originated in China. It's how their government isn't doing anything to educate their people on food and maintain standards and policies which result in an environment that continues to breed diseases like this.

Here's a video from someone who has recently lived in China for over a dozen years.

Because it came to those countries from China. It didn't just fall out of the sky.

...total setup for Trump - who then went on to whine about the media, calling out the WSJ, etc (pathic behavior). The topic didn't come up in today's press conference until this "reporter" raised it...

I am stunned. There is a CNN report that shows what purports to be a photo of notes that President Trump is reading from.

And someone has crossed out the word "corona" and replaced it with "chinese" - as in "chinese virus".

Un-freakin-believable. A comparison to Hitler at this point would be apt if, repeat if, this photo is real.
