John preached a simple message:
Luke 3:3 And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism
of repentance for the remission of sins.

Repentance and Remission of Sin brings a Spiritual Rebirth as evidenced by the
response to the message. Spiritual Revival always comes with the confession of sin.

Matthew 3:6 ...and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

Jesus also preached a message of repentance when His ministry began.
Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, Repent,
for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Those who were born again after receiving John’s message remained faithful
to the message of Christ.

John 10:
40
And He went away again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was baptizing
at first, and there He stayed.
41 Then many came to Him and said, John performed no sign, but all the things that
John spoke about this Man were true.
42 And many believed in Him there.

Repentance for the remission of sin is all that is necessary to be spiritually reborn.
If not, why did the message remain the same even after the ascension?

Luke 24:47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His
name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Consider the thriving community at Ephesus
Acts 19:
1
And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through
the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples
2 he said to them, Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?
So they said to him, We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.
3 And he said to them, Into what then were you baptized? So they said,
Into John’s baptism.

4 Then Paul said, John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance,
saying to the people that they should believe in Him who would come after him,
that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them,
and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
7 Now the men were about twelve in all.

Now that the power of regeneration was active among them, they turned
the world upside down!

18 And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds.
19 Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together
and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and
it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver.
20 So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed!!!!!
