[Gen 1:1 KJV] 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
[Gen 1:2 KJV] 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
...[Gen 1:6 KJV] 6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

The earth was formless and void. Made with the Heaven. The Waters were not yet divided. It appears that water covered the whole earth, in H2o, mist, and rain.

The earth is held in place by the Word.

My concern is that Evolution is not a scriptural stance. It is a secular creation and driven by secularism. This then brings in the age of the earth and what is needed to bring evolution to where we are now. This then pulls in Christians who start doubting the sovereignty and divinity of Jesus the creator of all. And they don't even know it, and don't put together what it takes in the lacking of Jesus to need evolution/old earth. That Jesus needed some chaotic time frame instead of 24 hour days 1 to 3 like Days 4 to 7.

Because science says it takes this long for a diamond to be created, or this long for us to get from nothing to full-on something.

An old earth is all about hedging your bets in case...
A young earth alings by acknowledging all days are of the same length, and that trust is placed in Jesus, even in the things we cannot see.

Science is not the answer to the 'earth'. Jesus created it. And Jesus never needs mans help explaining Himself.

Notice, 1:1,000,000,000 people ever debate that the first few days were .0000000001 of a 24 hour period. It is always Millions and billions and trillions because they must place science over scripture to find the truth.

Peace and Blessings
Globe earth and evolution have nothing to do with each other, although I often see flat earthers linking the two.
I do not believe in macro evolution. I don't believe the fossil evidence supports it, indeed I believe it directly refutes it, but I know 100% that the earth is a globe.

This is a very fiercely defended topic regardless of which side you are on. The point of the thread is not to try to prove who is right/wrong. I am well aware that these discussions often devolve into exactly that, a back and forth on who is right and who is wrong, however; please respond to the following two questions before you begin said back and forth.

1. Should individual churches take an official position on the topic of flat vs. spherical Earth? What about the Church as a whole? Why or why not?

2. How would you handle a situation in which this topic began to become divisive and create discord within your local church? Assume you are an elder or leader.
Churches don't have to take an official position on FE v globe. That's like having a dispute over 2+2=4. A divisive FE person would be asked to leave in our fellowship - after due warnings. It's not a spiritual issue unless someone makes it one. No one got saved by believing that the earth is flat and believing the truth won't send you to hell.

This is a question about the place of the intellect/mind, and whether we can
trust it to explore the natural world, and the world of abstract concepts.

This is the same question that should be asked about people who believe
systems of conspiracy theories, and accept that any new theory/explanation
is correct, if it fits in with what they already believe.

This is also a question about whether or not our shared reality is accessible
(potentials) to all of us, and whether or not we individually are responsible
for a correct view of our shared reality.

Those who are flat earth's, have already rejected the goodness of intellectual
processes. In a radical form, they have asserted what reality is, apart from
intellectual testing, to see if their view of reality is actually what is real.

I think that it would be more helpful to talk about the place of the mind, and logic,
than to talk about the shape of the earth.

I don't argue with the Word; I embrace that God the Father's ways are deep and strive to accept that which is and mold myself into His image
It's the Holy Spirit who moulds us into Jesus' image, 2 Corinthians 3:18 - we don't do it ourselves.
