John 3:
5
Jesus answered, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water
and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Do not marvel that I said to you, You must be born again (from above).

To be born again of the Spirit is a direct result of what Paul calls reconciliation.
Romans 5:10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through
the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

This reconciliation with the Father allows the believer to receive from above,
from the Holy Spirit to our spirit.

John 3:
27
John answered and said, A man can receive nothing unless it has been
given to him from heaven.
31
He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly
and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.
32
And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one
receives His testimony.
33 He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true.

To receive the Truth of the Gospel is to be reconciled with the Father,
and be born again. Again, to receive from above, Holy Spirit to our spirit.

Romans 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that
we are children of God.

The reason that most do not see clearly the relationship between Paul and the Gospel of
John is the strange tendency of academic Christianity to break the Gospel down word by
word to formulate a handy "Bible Dictionary". The truth is that all these things point to one thing, a restored relationship with our heavenly Father, by the promise of the Spirit.
Paul is describing this restored ability again here.

1 Corinthians 2:
10
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things,
yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?
Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God,
that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

Simply put, you must be born from above to receive from above.
Same topic, from James
James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes
down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle,
willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

This should make perfect sense to anyone who is born again from above
John 8:
23
And He said to them, You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world;
I am not of this world.
24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am,
you will die in your sins.

God giving and man receiving from heaven. Like dancing in the rain.
Isaiah 55:
10
For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there,
But water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower
and bread to the eater,
11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper for which I sent it.

Freely you have received...
John 10:28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall
anyone snatch them out of My hand.

Read ALL of John 3:
34 For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give
the Spirit by measure.
35
The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.
36
He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not
believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

To be born again from above is to receive what the Son gives to us FREELY
Revelation 21:
6
And He said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning
and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely
to him who thirsts.

7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and
he shall be My son.
