• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I just really need to vent and get this out so I can stop thinking about this and calm down a little. My son is 10yrs. and is autistic, and I have been having problems with the school all year! My son has come soooooooo far in the last 7yrs since he began school, every year we see a big improvement! We moved to a new town with a new school. (he was doing so well last year that at the IEP may 2005 he was moved from CD to LD, with No behavioral goals!). So this ment for the first time since kindergarden he could go to the neighborhood school! Great right? Nope! The school itself is nice the teachers are nice and they want to help him ~but they are the first ones to admitt that they have no exp. with this~And he is Regressing and I keep telling them that (where in Mediation right now becouse I want him moved back to a cd program with teachers who know how to handle his sensory issuse and outburst and all these bad things that are happening to my poor son! He hasen`t acted out like this since 1st grade! And if he goes back to being violent, theres NO way I can restraine him like I use to(hes almost as big as I am). And when I say they don`t know what to do with him, they don`t~ they call ME! Today I had to go overthere becouse they couldn`t settle him down~It took me 20 min. to do it, he was so worked up! And yet they don`t want to send him to a school where they could possibly help him (I think it has become a control issue, becouse it wouldn`t cost the district any more money- the only thing that would happen is that my child would get the help he needs!~ Sorry so long, just had to get that out!~God bless

Praying for you...fighting with schools is SO frustrating.

Is the school willing to hire someone like an aide that will work with him so that he doesn't regress. I'm surprised they don't have any experience or people there that do.

I hope you can find a solution that works for all but especially your son.

It`s way beyond the point where an aide could help (that`s what I wanted 2 1/2 months ago), It`s to the point the child himself is giving up and just refusing to do alot of stuff! I have a call into the Ass. Super. and we keep missing eachother~ But when I do talk to her, I`m going to tell her, that she is the last person in the district that I`m willing to try to talk to (becouse no one is listening to me), and if she does not help me I`m finding someone who will!!! God gave me this child for a reason, (my sister thinks it`s becouse I`m so quiet and shy and I have never been able to stand up for myself, so GOD is teaching me to do that through my son, to stand up for something I believe is right~She could have a point, I believe there`s a reason for everything!~Thank you both for your suggestions~God bless you

Just wanted to say thank you for your replies! And I`m happy to report that after another 3hrs. of Med. the school district has finally agreed to move my son to a more app. school, one that has an Autistic program! (they were still fighting me on this for the first 3hrs. of med., even after the fact that the day before, my son had had such a big "outburst" in his reg. ed. classroom that the principal and another male teacher had to physically carry him down stairs to the office! (this is no small task, he weighs about 115 and is almost 5' and only in 4th grade)._ But I am soooooooo happy that they are fina. going to move him and he now has a chance to move forward again!!! The Lord is truly great!~GOD bless

Wonderful news!

Lord watch over ellieberrie's son as he starts in a new program. May he find friends and have a renewed vigor to learn. Please continue to encourage ellieberrie and her family as they settle into a new routine and get to know new teachers, aides and specialist. Thank you for providing for her son's needs. You are an awesome God and we give You all the glory and the praise...In Jesus Name, Amen

Hi,
I can understand your frustration! We have a 10 yr.old son also who is in an EI classroom because they refuse to see that he has Asperger's. We have gotten mixed DX from several professionals. Mostly they are saying that he has "asperger like tendencies" but no one want sto help him or us by addressing him as if he were DX. Good luck and God Bless!!

Where you live do you have a decent mr/dd program ? I work in the adult services department of an mr/dd program in Ohio. (Each county has its own program). Our program is literally a cradle to grave program. We will take babies younger than 1 and have a seniors program for people in their 70s and 80s. We also have an exceptional school-age program. Where I live, if we can't help you directly, we can surely point you to the people who can. Maybe there's a local program that can do the same for you.
