Real problems with AA Step 12

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of doing these steps.

Just seems to completely go against what the Bible teaches?

I would call a spiritual awakening being Born Again?

I think you got it correct. 12 steps addresses the selfish illness associated with addiction, it's not a bible lesson, but they do teach some good things. Christianity is far superior. In fact I quite drinking by going to church and had a spirit filled experience that was far superior to when I went to the 12 step program. 12 steps are more like counseling than church really.

You can have a spiritual awakening but it's different. And perhaps tainted somewhat.

I'll add that 12step programs don't specify who God is, it's God as you understood him, which then can distort your spiritual awakening from Christianity. HTH's

The 12 steps are a generalized set of steps that are meant to apply to anyone, though the process can be found in the bible if you're creative.

Spiritual awakening can mean a number of things, but I think in terms of turning away from alcohol or drugs it might mean "experiencing a newness of life?"
