At least in Ugarit and Babylon it was customary to ritually descend the throne into the underworld. It also served as a place for the dead to rest when they were called up. I'm not sure what the custom is in Egypt. If a throne was found and that was not a custom of the Egyptians that would be very interesting.

If there is a throne there a body should be there too because it seems doubtful for a king to be buried separate from the throne. And so far there is no indication in the areas we have found that a pharoah was entombed.
