The cross is a religious icon and has no value other than to remind Believers of what Jesus did. There is no Scriptural support for making the cross a holy object. The world can do, and has done, anything it wants with the cross. Sadly, many "Christians" become upset when the cross or any other religious icon is misused, probably because they have put their faith in a church and all its trappings rather than in Jesus Christ.

actually revrobor, your wrong on that, it isn't only to remind us of what he did, it was the instrument that was used by Christ to save us.

Also, early church people used the cross as a symbol other than the fish... Tertullian spoke of making the sign of the cross with your finger on your forehead to show you were Christian...

The Cross is definitely a Holy Object... Ever heard of the Saint who discovered it?

That is like saying the Holy Grail isn't a Holy Object, or that the Ark isn't a Holy Object...

I gotta disagree with that. A cross is just a cross. There was only one cross on which He died, and I don't think any rappers will have it around their neck. :p

Besides, the cross is just an ugly reminder of the fact that we nailed Him there. Had it not been for you and me, there would have been no need of such an ugly torture and death.

We have no patent on the cross. We have absolutely no right to tell anyone what they can or cannot display.

yea..but if you use it for fashion looks...I don't mind if they wear because they believe in it..but they misuse...
THat's like saying..."jesus on the cross looks like a new fashion trend."

Let's say for the sake of argument you are correct. Why do you expect the world to act right?

you guys we don't need to make a big deal out of this, i see where both of you are going.

yes our savior did die on a cross but not the one that they wear and i understand that it is symbolic for it, but so many people today wear it as another peice of jewelry, specially people who claim to know CHrist, 'worldly people can't be held to the same standards as us though b/c they don't believe in the same things.

p,s, i would like to know the story behind the saint who discovered it, b/c i know that the romans used it as a method to kill people

THat's what GOd wants..to see everyone to try to be good..you know?
Here's the question..why do you believe in GOd?

The world doesn't care anything about obeying God, my friend. For that matter, they CANNOT obey God. They are spiritually dead, and have absolutely no method of grasping spiritual concepts. You cannot expect them to be obedient to God, anymore than you can expect your deceased relatives to be obedient to your commands.

Are we getting nit-pickey here? You're stating the obvious but there is still not Scriptural support for making the "cross" a holy object. God could have hung the Lord on a lamp post to get the job done if He wanted. And it doesn't really matter what the early church used - that does not make it Biblical.

I think some people on this site have a very SICK and ridiculous hatred towards rap music and rappers. I don't want to name names or spread any rumours or accusations but to me it seems obvious why they do. Do they forget how Madonna wears the cross while strutting around in her racy videos back in the late 80's early 90's? And do I have to remind them about Goth rock?

I don't think being a rapper precludes one from being a Christian (although I personally would wager that it precludes one from being a musician :D ) That said, I take offense when I see someone wearing a cross and acting in a way that I think is decidedly unChristian.

Perhaps that's one of the reasons I wear my cross UNDER my shirt. I am sure there are days where I could be caught doing something unChristian, too.

Many wear it as a sign of being a christian, so many infact, that when rappers or such wear it, people try to put the to together. But why do they wear it, not becuase it was some roman way of killing people, but becuase it has become popular (I guess that is the way to put it) to wear a cross. For myself, I do not wear a cross, but make my relationship with God known in other ways. But with me I do carry a small wooden cross. But it is not shown, and prayfully will never be. It is to remind me of the promise not to use what the cross is attached to. But then I can be a little over ceremonial.
