Isaiah 58:1 Cry aloud, spare not; Lift up your voice like a trumpet;
Tell My people their transgression, And the house of Jacob their sins.
One suggestion in the reading of this verse is that the human voice can imitate
the sounds made with the silver priestly trumpet, or the ram’s horn. The voice of
shofar has a spiritual/supernatural element in that the sound calls to the spirit of
man to draw near to God.
For the Holy Spirit to sound the voice of shofar through a sanctified one, that person
must be the horn in the hand of the Spirit.
This is not imitation, this is a work of Faith.
The Drawing Near of the People Of God
Exodus 19:
12 You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, Take heed to yourselves
that you do not go up to the mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain
shall surely be put to death.
13 Not a hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot with an arrow;
whether man or beast, he shall not live. When the trumpet sounds long, they shall
come near the mountain.
We see that the reaction to the sound of the trumpet was expected to draw the people
to the Lord. This understanding is clouded by the translation of masak [H4900]= “sounds long”. Masak means to be literally drawn, and is not simply designating an element of time, such as “drawn out”, or "sounding long”. H4900 - māšaḵ - Strong's Hebrew Lexicon (kjv)
For example:
Jeremiah 38:13 So they pulled Jeremiah up with ropes and lifted him out of the dungeon. And Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
As compared to this context:
Jeremiah 31:3 The Lord has appeared to me of old, Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.
Tell My people their transgression, And the house of Jacob their sins.
