The Democrat south is where slavery occurred and where Jim Crow occured.
And to say blacks never had issues anywhere else would certainly be wrong. And to say that blacks do not have have never suffered any issues is also wrong. However, the obstacles that have prevented them from becoming successful have been removed. This country is not a racist country. We by and large believe and want all people to become all they can be here. We are not a racist nation.
Actually there was a lot of racism in the norh and post Civil War. For instance, 1.2 million black soldiers were denied the GI bill afer WWII. They didn't get that help buying a house after the war. They also had their houses that they did own marked lower than they were worth because of who owned the house. It wasn't just in the south. Even up to in the late 50s and early 60s, various Vegas casinos denied access to the main restaurants to blacks including those who were entertainers. Sammy Davis Jr. mentioned in an interview that Jerry Lewis wanted him join him for dinner when they were both working the MGM Grand, and were told that Davis could not eat in the same restaurant. Lewis contacted the boss of MGM and that changed that night. There was a great deal of racism that you might not have noticed.
However the WOKE movement says we whites are inherently racist and must be punished for being so. And one of the biggest ways to do that is to have policies or laws that discriminate against white people. And in some places they want things to be taken away from white people and given to black people.
Everyone has prejudices and biases. "Woke" was first used to signal increased awareness of racial issues back in the 1940s. It has changed in recent years but the idea that we should be more aware of others and racial issues is not twisted.
