Think about it, dude.
What do all sins have in common?
They all cause pain.
Not really. At least not in the short run.
And obedience can cause a LOT of pain.

I suspect we are coming from different soteriological viewpoints.

It's kind of important to me...
Tell me...
What sin doesn't cause pain?

So many chemical addictions register as pleasure while doing seemingly painless damage. Sexual sins seem to have the same effect on our souls.

Having been molested, I can certainly attest to the latter. :sigh:
But I have met YHVH Rapha.

What sin doesn't cause pain?
One of the most dangerous of sins: unbelief.
Anything not done in faith (which comes from hearing God on the subject) is the sin of unbelief.

And almost all sins of ignorance do not cause pain.

My wife had to endure years of that as a child. I will attest as well.

Tell me one.
In 1 Tim 2.8 Paul commands people to pray with their hands raised.
So to NOT do that (at least occasionally) is a sin.

But if you are unaware that it is a command and never do that, what pain is there?

You really think not raising your hands is a sin?
Really?

Yes. Paul commanded it, and one of the many definitions of sin is violating a scriptural command.

You think it's about the hands, not the reverence?
It is both. You have to have both.

So is there pain associated with not being reverent or raising your hands?

no

I guess I don't see sex as causing pain in general.
No communicating about the sex one is thinking of having ... that can cause pain.
Lying to a lover about sex can cause pain. Say not telling them about an STI.
A birth defect .. a rebellious child can cause pain.
A spouse that with holds sex ...
etc.

But I can't think of a time when the actual sex caused me pain.

Why so much focus on whether something is or isn't a sin? If a person isn't truly sorry and doesn't think that what they did was wrong, then it's not going to matter either way, right?
Wrong. No one who is a true believer wants to offend God - and anything that is a sin does just that.

Additionally, many believe that any kind of sin, no matter how insignificant, and even if you do not know it is a sin, cancels your salvation.

So yeah - it is important to know "whether something is or isn't a sin."

Generally, telling a Christian that something is a sin doesn't immediately change their mind on the matter. Especially since it's usually up for debate, as in this thread. Everyone has reasons for their convictions. They've thought through why they believe what they do, and you could spend a lifetime trying to find two Christians who agree on every single moral matter. Most people aren't easily swayed by someone else simply claiming that they're wrong.
Additionally, many believe that any kind of sin, no matter how insignificant, and even if you do not know it is a sin, cancels your salvation.
What denomination is this? I've never heard that.
