Is it acceptable for an Orthodox parish to observe the feast of Francis of Assisi?

Francis of Assisi is NOT considered a saint by the Orthodox Church and thus the Orthodox Church does NOT recognize a feast day for him.

Thanks, Michael....That's what I thought, so why is an Orthodox Church in America monastery observing this day? How should I take this information? I feel concerned by this information.

Why isn't he considered a saint according to the Orthodox Church?

Francis of Assisi is post-schism, thus he belongs to Rome and not to Orthodox Christianity. There are those within Orthodoxy who view him as a saint, but they are doing so based on their own beliefs and not those of the Orthodox Church.

Yeah, that is exactly what I thought when I read the original post. Yeah, New Skete does some strange things. I have no idea why they are even allowed to celebrate Francis' feast.

OK, so if they're (ostensibly) under the OCA, why are they giving formal recognition to Catholic saints? (They probably are saints as far as God is concerned, but we have no authority to claim them as such.)

Because out of greed they want to make money off Roman Catholics who want things that look like icons of these "saints".

Why else would an Orthodox monastery sell "icons" of people that Orthodoxy does not view to be saints unless they want to make money off Roman Catholics? That sounds like a textbook definition of greed.

Or... they just think he is a Saint and thinks the Church is wrong not to recognize him. I wouldn't defend the position as it is prideful, but my point is that there are several other reasons it could be other than greed. And there may be more that we don't even know.

Why can't we just say "that's wrong" and stop at that not assuming what is going on in their hearts?

Orthodox wiki says they are ex-francisans. Perhaps its not greed but rather a desire to continue to venerate their patron even after conversion?

However I'm suprised that OCA allows this.

Explain the other Catholic "icons" they sell. Wait, yes I know it. They are trying to build bridges while being in direct disobedience to the Church. Sorry, that line of thought holds no weight with me.

I wasn't approving it or anything. In fact, as I said in my previous post i am suprised the OCA allows such behaviour. I was merely trying to point out that to accuse them of greed without suitable justification is wrong and there could easily be other reasons.
