• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Ya know, perhaps a New Category should be suggested for General Health Questions because .... or wait, maybe a whole category devoted to Blood Pressure... i discovered in April that I had prehypertension (about 130/86) and I was able to bring it down quite easily by a moderate change in diet and added exercise.
Mine didn't get high until my 40s and now it's hard to control. I am going through all the usual garbage with my excessive weight and perimenopausal time of life. It's tough. The doctors just increased my lisinopril (doubled it). And within a week, I ended up in the ER with "palpitations" which I called miss beats but were in actuality PVCs, many of them in fact. Since I rarely experienced this fluttering feeling in the past (and not for more than 30 sec. or a minute), this is a dramatic change. The cardio docs don't want to say it's the lisinopril even though some of the drug info says it can cause pounding beats, irregular beats. So I'm going back to my regular GP to see if he wants to change it back and give me something else to supplement. He has also told me that the average person with hypertension eventually ends up on three drug regimen to control it because that seems to be the most effective. Right now, I am praying that all these PVCs are drug related and things will get back to normal because all the other tests they gave me showed my heart was in good condition.

Will diet and exercise help me. Probably but at my weight that ain't an easy thing to do especially on limited income with children still at home (and high school age).
