De 13:1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
De 13:3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
De 13:5 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

In every context (there are only three) the dreamer of dreams is juxtaposed to "a prophet." Therefore, the dreamer of dreams would be the type of person who would tell everyone that "I HAD A DREAM" as if it were some wonderful thing everyone had to listen to.

It's kind of like during the time of Saul and David, they were called "Seers" but later they were called prophets. Both have a prophetic gift, but it manifests differently.

(Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to enquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is now called a Prophet was beforetime called a Seer.) (1 Samuel 9:9)

Numbers 12
5 And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.
8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?

A good contrast is what God says about how He communicated to people back then in contrast to how He talked to Moses.

From what I can tell, a Prophet has a way of communicating with God and is communicated to in dreams, and a dreamer of dreams only gets the dreams with no clarification or is not able to receive the communication from God.

Seers are prophets but not all prophets are seers.

Seers are throughout Scripture. John had visions Rev 4

Seers are/were given words but usually see while prophets have dreams but primarily are given words. Here's an example- They didnt want to know the will of God so they said "Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:" Isa 30:10

"...seers and prophets..." are stated in these Scriptures II Kings 17:13, Isa 29:10, and Isa 30:10.

Everything God does has a purpose. "For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; 16 Then he openth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction," Job 33

One question you could ask yourselves to answer this question on is a dreamer of dreams that come to pass a prophet, vision or simply a person with a strong enough belief to here HaShem, praise be He, like Joseph, who prayed about Mary's condition and was told to take her as his wife. Dreams we believe is one area where G-d can answer our questions because when we dream in the Alpha state, we are also more open to His voice (as well as voices of the other side so its also important to learn to hear that still small voice).

Put another way, there is public Revelation and private, Public is for everyone like John's Revelation, Private covers a small area, like America or even a household or individual. Therefore when I prayed to know my sin I must overcome this year I had a dream where I was told I needed to Love HaShem will all My heart, which suggested I was not loving Him with everything.

I used this dream because it clearly shows I still a sinner, I lack complete child like trust in Him. This is one reason one might not love Him with their entire heart, because with love comes trust but other reasons is you love something else as well (money, success or power re a few) or you doubt your can love Him, because you see holy people all around you growing strong in faith and you seem to be stagnating (we all grow differently and at different speeds).

So dreaming dreams, even dreams that come to pass does not mean your are a prophet or even a seer though these two often do, it maybe only the L-rd answering your prayer. Lust a thought.

In addition to the previous helpful replies, the essential point was the falsity or true quality of what was going on.

A true insight of whatever format will both point to how we can apply Scriptures, and call us to pray about how our lives can conform to God's will.

I'll give you a slightly different take on it. In 200 b.c. the LXX was written, which was the Greek version of the old testament used by the people in Israel in Jesus' time and is used in the new testament. The main reason I like to use it is because more is known about Greek at that time than the Hebrew that came before it, and the writers of the LXX most certainly would have known more about the intricacy's of ancient Hebrew than anyone alive today.

The LXX translated the list Michael Collum provided as this, according to just one website I looked at:

Deuteronomy 13:1 (one dreaming dreams)
13:1 1437-1161 εάν δε And if 450 αναστή there should rise up 1722 εν among 1473 σοι you 4396 προφήτης a prophet 2228 η or 1797 ενυπνιαζόμενος one dreaming 1798 ενύπνιον dreams, 2532 και and 1325 δω he should give 1473 σοι to you 4592 σημείον a sign 2228 η or 5059 τέρας miracle,

Deuteronomy 13:3 (the one dreaming that dream)
13:3 3756 ουκ You shall not 191 ακούσεσθε hearken to 3588 των the 3056 λόγων words 3588 του 4396-1565 προφήτου εκείνου of that prophet, 2228 η or 3588 του the 1797 ενυπνιαζομένου one dreaming 3588 το 1798-1565 ενύπνιον εκείνο that dream; 3754 ότι for 3985 πειράζει [3tests 2962 κύριος 1the lord 3588 ο 2316-1473 θεός υμών 2your God] 1473 υμάς you, 3588 του 1492 ειδέναι to know, 1487 ει if 25 αγαπάτε you love 2962 κύριον the lord 3588 τον 2316-1473 θεόν υμών your God 1537 εξ from 3650 όλης [2entire 3588 της 2588 καρδίας 3heart 1473 υμών 1your] 2532 και and 1537 εξ from 3650 όλης [2entire 3588 της 5590 ψυχής 3soul 1473 υμών 1your].

Deuteronomy 13:5 ([the dream dreaming that one])
13:5 2532 και And 3588 ο 4396-1565 προφήτης εκείνος that prophet, 2228 η or 3588 ο 3588 το [3the 1798 ενύπνιον 4dream 1797 ενυπνιαζόμενος 2dreaming 1565 εκείνος 1that one] 599 αποθανείται shall die; 2980-1063 ελάλησε γαρ for he spoke 4105-1473 πλανήσαί σε to cause you to wander 575 από from 2962 κυρίου the lord 3588 του 2316-1473 θεού σου your God 3588 του (the 1806 εξαγαγόντος one leading 1473 σε you 1537 εκ from 1093 γης the land * Αιγύπτου of Egypt, 3588 του 3084 λυτρωσαμένου ransoming 1473 σε you 1537 εκ from 3588 της 1397 δουλείας slavery) 1856 εξώσαί to push 1473 σε you 1537 εκ from 3588 της the 3598 οδού way 3739 ης of which 1781 ενετείλατό [3gave charge 1473 σοι 4to you 2962 κύριος 1the lord 3588 ο 2316-1473 θεός σου 2your God] 4198 πορεύεσθαι to go 1722 εν by 1473 αυτή it. 2532 και And 853 αφανιείτε you shall remove 3588 το 4190 πονηρόν [2wicked thing 1537 εξ 3from 1473 υμών 4you 1473 αυτών 1their].

They all have slightly different word usage, and don't really seem to coincide with the King James version. I'm also not sure what the square brackets mean on this website. I think it just means that the word-for-word translation contains words in a different order than an English speaker would use today, but the meaning is still there.
