He's a Shaman - he should have used the "ley line" defense. Shamans are drawn to ley lines and everyone knows the capital is built smack dab on top of them. Practically got sucked right in through those doors...

Wasn’t it Trump who was saying just last year that people who attack and destroy federal property should face a mandatory 10 year sentence?

Technically, I think Trump was "ordering" that to be the case. There is a federal law with (I think) a maximum sentence of 10 years for damaging monuments and artifacts. While Trump had the power (theoretically) to order the DOJ prosecutors to file such charges, he did not have the power to order Grand Juries to indict on that charge, or for Federal judges to sustain such charges or give the maximum sentence.

As to Jacob Chansley (the titular shaman), he was never charged with any property damage and only mild levels of violence (civil disorder) and pled guilty only to an obstruction of government proceedings charge [18 USC 1512(c)(2)].

They went way too easy on him. In many countries you'd either be killed on the spot by government guards, executed after a trial or sentenced to prison and wished you were dead.

I couldn't quickly find a direct quote from the judge on the specific number, but 41 months is exactly what the first Jan6 defendant who assaulted an officer got last week. I suspect the judge was hesitant to exceed that level on just the obstruction charge. The 41 months is within the federal sentencing guidelines. They assign a base "score" to the offense and give enhancements (including criminal history, details of the offense, uncharged actions) and credits (pleading guilty, cooperation, etc.).

The judge went a bit easy on him. The prosecutors were asking for 51 months. Still, he’ll have to trade his fur and horns for federal prison garb for 3 years and 5 months. Though if he behaves himself, he may get an early release.

Judge sentences U.S. Capitol rioter 'QAnon Shaman' to 41 months in prison
I'm glad these people are being sentence for their crimes. That their ex president told them to do. Soon Trump and the people allowed to happen need to be charged for the insurrection and 4 murders. That happen at the capital.

At least this guy has enough humility to admit he was duped. I suspect those long months in solitary confinement brought him back to reality. He seems to understand his behavior was reprehensible and misguided.

But the US ain't "many countries" -- thank God.

It's hard to know what to think of that Reuters article. The Shaman guy aside, no one was killed in the riot except for Ashli Babbitt, an unarmed protester, who was murdered by a guard. Yet Reuters says four or five were killed there and then or took their own lives, so what else in that news report is fiction? Well, it quotes Trump as saying "Fight like hell" (and nothing else) in his speech, but it's well-known that he urged his listeners to be "peaceful" as they marched to the Capitol later on.

Are you joking? The chief medical examiner in Washington, D.C., confirmed the causes and manners of death of four people who died during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Two of the four deaths were ruled natural, one an accident and the fourth a homicide, WTOP reported.

Trump was primarily responsible for the criminal, un-American, violent assault on the Congressmen and Congresswomen who had assembled to certify the election of the new President, as is their duty under the Constitution. There is no other way to spin the heinous behavior of trump's lawless followers. Nor to spin myths about how many people were killed on that extremely tragic day in US history.

Babbitt was not murdered. She was shot while leading a violent mob breaking into a restricted, barricaded area. An officer was one of the security personnel tasked with protecting members of Congress and their staff. He was cleared of any wrong doing. She was neither a hero, martyr or patriot. She was duped by the EX President refused to accept he had lost a free and fair election. Therefore, the EX President has her blood on his hands.

Others that died who were involved in the Jan. 6 rioting:

"killed," I said. Not died. The far left's claim was that insurrectionists killed people with fire extinguishers or something else.

Ashli Babbitt, a Trump supporter, was shot by police officer Michael Byrd.

One died of a heart attack, and that was outside the Capitol.

One, the founder of a pro-Trump website, died of a stroke later that day.

One, another woman and Trump supporter, was crushed to death when police pushed other protesters on top of her and would not let them off (according to the New York Times)

And the fifth, again a Trump supporter, went home, told his family he was fine, but died of natural causes the next day.

Wow. Not one but two downright ghoulish sneers at the unnecessary death of a young woman and veteran who was murdered for no good reason.

We've been over this at length before:

1. She wasn't murdered. Murder is "unlawful homicide", her death was ruled a justifiable homicide. (As cops would say: "a good shoot".)

2. Any review of her activities (particularly online) in the days, weeks, and months before Jan. 6 would indicate a person with rage, anger, and emotional control problems.

3. She was shot just as she lifted her self into position to leap through a broken window into a room with members of Congress. This is why her shooting was ruled as justified.

4. I was not denigrating her. I was noting her post-mortem conversion into a martyr. (And you clearly understood the reference.) That martyrdom seems to have faded a bit, likely because the Trump-Flynn-Bannon-et-al insurrection movement consists primarily of people with short attention spans and the masters have been feeding them new things to get them excited.

Not a bit of that alibi is persuasive, friend. But your fascination with Nazi minutia is somewhat disturbing.
